Oh I'm well aware that it can be used to treat acne, clearasil and a number other, cheaper products do the same thing.

That's like saying icy hot works as well as vicodin for pain.

Not naive at all man. You're generalizing your experience to everyone else's. You don't think that pregnancy rates, sexual activity, risky behaviors, etc vary across different segments of the population?

Who is more likely to have sex at a young age - a girl from a single parent abusive home with little to no one caring, or a girl from a good loving home with parents that try to steer her straight?

Of course I'm not saying everyone is a virgin in a good neighborhood. But you guys don't seem to think that parenting and role models play a role. You're completely wrong there.

Would you give a 15 year old vicodin over icy hot for shin splints?

Parents tell their daughterd BC is for acne because they don't want them to think they have a hall pass for unprotected sex. Repeating that fantasy as a grown man is akin to an adult believing their old dog went on vacation to a nice resort when it dies.

Well I fricking hope you are with all the bullshite you are spewing in this thread. There's probably thousands of HS girls every year that were "raised right" that get pregnant.

And you're completely wrong to think that telling them to not have sex is sufficient birth control for the vast majority of people. It didn't work like that in the past, it doesn't work like that now, and it won't work like that in the future. Sorry.

I'd agree, but many have cast parenting to the wayside in place of other modern priorities. Being a good role model along with being both good and bad guy is work.

On topic, IF the parents are guiding the daughter in a good direction, I think putting them on the pill will be seen as protecting them versus a ticket to Slutsville.

Saying that parenting has an effect is not spewing bullshite. It's a fact.

A. shin splints are not quite the severity of a teenage pregnancy
B. birth control isn't addictive
C. birth control has other added benefits besides acne, like easier cramps, lighter and shorter periods, and you don't get pregnant.

It's a no-brainer for me, but I'm not completely disconnected from the reality that even some of the best teenagers have sex. I also know from several friends and my wife that birth control really saved their skin as teenagers so now they aren't covered in pock marks as adults.

As long as there has been teenagers, there have been teenagers having sex.

Literally no one is saying that.

Oh, while we're on the subject, I'd lobby to ban fricking MTV. They are glorifying teen pregnancy in the worst way. That show makes me want to puke.

I don't think anyone believes that parenting has absolutely 0 effect.

However, you seem to believe parenting has a sufficient effect, which for most is not the case. Most high school aged kids bang. That's just a fact.

Parenting of course is important. Honestly haven't seen anyone say it isn't.

They're just saying all the parenting in the world can produce an excellent teenager with great grades, community involvement, tons of self-confidence, and some of them will still screw.

Did you already forget that you are the jamoke who made the vicodon comparison in the first place?

I'd say shin splints is an adequate equivalent to a little acne and cramping once a month in terms of (non)severity.

Why are you so puritanical about pregnancy while being so flippant about what causes pregnancy? It makes no logical sense.

"I pulled a train in the hockey team's locker room."

"Cool."

"I'm pregnant."

"You filthy slut!"

Pretty sure there have been studies that connect the teen mom show with drops in teen pregnancy rates.

The show was designed to show kids what being a teen mom was really like, and that it fricking sucked arse 99% of the time. If you thought that show glorified teen moms then you are just an idiot.

Absolutely. And of course some kids will still start early but it's not inevitable like these hard legs seem to think.

This may be the most objective post yet. I haven't argued against the pill (at least that I remember but not going back to reread all my posts). My only comment was that most 15 year olds from my kids' circles are not banging. (Absolutely some are, for those that can't seem to see anything except all/nothing)
