is a mixed bag honestly some of them are incredibly smart and over qualified for what they are doing and the job is 99% cake walk for them and they know it. Others I would not trust to tie their own shoes let alone run my multimillion dollar equipment but that’s America’s talent pool today.

I feel the same way about Chemical Engineers.

I don’t know much about plants or operators, but from a business perspective, If the plants could automate what operators do for less than it cost to keep the operators they would. If they could hire, train, and retain people to do the operator’s job for less money they would. Since neither of these things has happened using operators must be the most economical way of accomplishing that function in a plant.

You know that chemical engineering is all bullshite, right? We just make that shite up on the fly and then blame Mechanical Integrity or Maintenance when it doesn't work. We laugh about it in our monthly "frick everyone else in the plant" meetings while we're counting our money.

Don't believe me? Look at what CheEngineer said.

Oh, I ain't showing up to anything between the hours of 10 and 2 unless it's catered.

And sometimes when I design something, for extra fun, I wait until everyone is ready to install and then change the process just to hear them complain.

I was forced to hire a woman (no pics and you will read why later) that had cut hair for 20 years to run some of my extruders in a plant in Decatur, AL several years ago. We were told we had to match the demographics of the city. She thought it was like the hair salon and could just gossip and not do her work. I had several counseling sessions, but couldn’t fire her. She fixed the problem herself by committing suicide after the guy she was screwing decided to stay with his wife. 44 to the heart.

I’ve read some dumb shite on the OT before but this is pretty close to being the dumbest take in OT history
