Until the price of oil goes up, it doesn't matter who is in the White House.

He's already talking about opening up Federal lands for drilling, etc.

I've been in the O/G field my whole career and after the advancements in shale production since 2010 I don't agree with the current need to drill on Federal lands. We can get enough domestic production out of current plays for a long time. Keep the Federal lands off limits until we need it

I agree, but I think it says a lot about what's to come.

Side note, do you think $53/bbl is profitable for onshore drilling?

Absolutely, my company is profitable at $20-$25 with EOR plays in the Permian. Though the Permian is the lowest cost by far which is why most of its activity has maintained over other shale plays.

agree completely...I am certainly no tree hugger, but when we are fighting low energy prices, what logic is there to further increase the supply?

Thanks, the amount of people who think it isn't greatly outnumbers those who know what they're talking about.

Cork, I didn't realize you are worried about just production and not exploration.

Your statement of being profitable at $50 is true for WTI production. Apologies.

No apologies necessary, that was mainly geared toward those who think that $50 isn't profitable in any way and that I must be high to think so.

Is exploration really even necessary anymore in places like the Permian, Bakken, Eagleford, etc.? I feel like it's established enough that the chances of finding a new field like the Wolfcamp is pretty much impossible.

From what I understand they have plenty of wells for production over the next decade without needing any new ones. I don't know the fields though, just what gets relayed downstream. The reward isn't with running a lot of those crudes right now.

Anyhow, if they aren't drilling the oilfield baws aren't going to rebound, especially not to ~2010 levels

I don't think we'll ever see levels like that again, but I can tell you from my personal experience and what I'm seeing with my own eyes is that things have definitely stabilized and are starting to grow again; rig count is up, companies are hiring.

My company is involved strictly with EOR plays (CO2 floods) in literally the oldest fields in the Permian that were supposed to run out of oil decades ago. In or biggest producing field we just found another 600 million recoverable barrels in a transistion zone literally feet below where we've been drilling for years. I use the term 'find' loosely, but with the advancement of EOR technology those barrels have no become recoverable in the current pricing environment. We have more oil than we'll ever need, just not all of it is recoverable with current technology or pricing

This has always interested me. Is this done as a substitute for fracing? If so, do you still perforate?

No not Denbury but only two more guess and you'll probably figure it out. There's not a lot of us out there.

Honestly, I'm not on the technical side of things so I can't answer those types of questions. I have a business related degree and I sit in an office behind a computer in Houston!
