The only thing worse than the constant yapping is the fact that the owners of the small dogs just act like it's my fault that their dog is going insane.
This is true. And they act like it is perfectly ok that their little yapsters bark incessantly and are aggressive toward big dogs, like it's an entitlement. My shepherd has a pretty deep, throaty bark that if it were directed at those little rat dogs and their owners, would likely freeze the blood in their veins. She mostly reserves that for the UPS or pizza deliveries, or for whoever rings our doorbell.

We have three pugs. The blind one barks just to let you know she knows you are there. The other two don't bark at all. Layer back, friendly, not aggressive at all.

I feel like pugs aren't really 'smaller' dogs. Just my opinion though.

I have a 90 pound German Shepard and a 10 pound Cairn Terrior. They both have their pros and cons but the terrior is a thousand times the bigger a-hole to anything and everyone he comes into contact with. When I'm walking them everyone's always afraid of the GS but I tell them it's the little bastard they should really worry about.

Smaller dogs feel the need to be aggressive as a defense mechanism for their small size

Nick Saban can confirm this.

In my house, yes. My Rhosesian doesn't really like any stranger but he's quiet as a mouse. My rat terrier/ chihuahua hates every living being that doesn't live in my house and he wants the world to know it. My neighbors live 100yds away and couldn't fart into a pillow inside their house without him hearing and barking

They are technically classified in the "toy" category of dogs...but just barely.

My pug is very laid back and sweet. He'll bark when our lab mix barks though. But mainly cause he's pretty stupid and is likely thinking "oh, maybe since he's barking I should too".

And yes..I called my dog stupid. Pugs are many things....highly intelligent is certainly not one of them.

Yes. My German Shepherd Dog has literally barked once the last year and a half. Totally out of the blue, no idea what set him off, completely unnerved me. I spent the next hour armed to the teeth searching every inch of my house and property.

None of my Border Collies have barked much, other than yelling at me when I pull up to the house until I tell them Hi.

I have a Brittany that barks to alert me when something or someone is nearby. My ex had a min pin that used to bite the frick out of me for no reason. I hated that little shithead. My brit is way more laid back and generally awesome. When we go on our leash walks around the neighbourhood this one house has 4 or 5 ankle biters come storming out the dog door raising hell every time we pass. My dog ignores them. There's also this chick that let's her chihuahua out unleashed, unfenced, and unsupervised. Throws a shite fit every time we walk by. Mine ignores it.

TLDR: I agree with your assessment based on personal experience.

Small dogs are retarded due to overbreeding

You mean inbreeding?

But beyond the way they're bred, people usually suck at disciplining a small dog. They treat them like a toy, instead of a normal dog.

I've been around, and had a couple of cool small dogs. But they seem to be more of the exception than the norm.
