I've had them before. Had to relocate the tank across the state and marine ich showed up out of nowhere. I hadn't added anything in weeks. Lost all the fish but the coral are still going strong.
I have had the home tank going almost a year and Ms.Scoob just told me about Fuel by aquavitro.
I started using it and within a week I felt like the softies all plumped up about 30%.

I'm between nola and slidell. Not in the middle of the two... I frequent both.

The girls in my office (No pics) keep asking for nemo.
My neighbor(who got me into the aquarium hobby when I was younger) worked at a Petco when that movie came out.
Said soccer moms came in dime a dozen thinking getting a clown fish and blue tang was as simple as putting them in a bowl or some crappy 5 gallon starter tank. And how the soccer mom's wouldn't take no for an answer(Petco employees are allowed to refuse sale if they dont think the animals will be taken well care of). They would get really mad and want to speak to a manager because they didn't want to tell their kids "No you can't have a dory and nemo"
I've read articles about how the Nemo movies are bad for the saltwater industry because a bunch of people who don't do their research are buying these fish with no idea how to do a saltwater tank, creating more demand for the fish, which means more fish are harvested to send to their doom

I have a running Nuvo 16 in white with live sand and some nice live rock I need to get rid of if you're interested. It's the White model with the white stand. I bought it for a Mantis Shrimp that died 2 weeks after I bought it and haven't done anything with it since then. Just been doing water changes and letting it run

Nemo wasn't nearly as bad as Dory. I dive at the aquarium and we had games where kids would explore looking for Clownfish in different tanks.
Clowns are easily bred in home aquariums so while it may be inhumane to keep them in a small tank leading to almost certain death, they were not directly impacting the environment.
The blue tang, or Palette surgeonfish on the other hand does not bred in captivity. 100% of the animals you have ever seen were plucked from the wild. That has a devastating impact when new hobbyist attempt to keep them.
Reason #5735 why growing/fragging/sharing corals is a better idea.

the hippo tangs that Petco gets in are sick with ich almost immediately...petco just doesn't care to train their employees or get the proper equipment to keep SW fish...
i used a nano tank to rescue as many fish/frags from Petco as i could until i could put them in my big tank, but I'm not paying $70 for a RBTA from petco that's balled up and floating around.

shite man, I don't know. You know how this hobby is. You throw a bunch of money at it and you should never expect to recoup your expenses. I just bought all 4 brand new lighting transformers for it last month from Innovative. They are proud of their shite.

did the Ich wipe out your fish? I had a bad Ich problem and went fallow. put all my fish in hospital tanks and treated with copper, and waited. i think the number is 72 days fallow and ich should be eradicated.

my hippo tang showed signs of ich and i coated his veggie strips with garlic guard and it worked great
i keep it on standby at all times.

Cool thing happened last year at UF. They successfully bred blue tangs for the first time!
Check it out

Why don't they breed in captivity?
They shy or is it just like a mating ritual and they're particular?

Yep. Lost the Gramma after about two weeks. Clown was about a week later. Six Line made it another week or two.
I tried treating it with "reef safe" meds... DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. It pissed off all the corals and still didn't work. Unfortunately I didn't have a hospital tank available so I had to pray.
** I won't spend another dollar at Delta Pet Center in Slidell. Guy told me to try the $20 bottle of reef safe organic ich stuff then when I told him I lost everything he said, "Well I knew it wasn't going to work but I had to sell you something."

quote:its a parasite that attaches to fish. Usually fish can fight it off unless they become stressed. then an infestation happens and your other fish can get it. it is very easy to treat with copper, if you have no invertebrates in the tank. Thing is most people have snails and crabs and corals. and the copper will kill all of that, so you have to treat them in another tank. Ich looks like little white pimples or salt crystals all over the fishes skin.
What is ich
