Well your lighting, filtration, flow, and livestock all varies depending on if you want to keep corals in the tank or not.

Why such a big pump on a nano?

I'll probably get the Sicce Syncra Silent 2.0 pump for it. Rated 568 GPH

Do you have a refugium in it
Posted on 2/13/17 at 2:06 pm to goldennugget
Yea; middle chamber has a nice ball of chaeto and miracle mud. I'm considering removing the miracle mud but i don't wanna throw my tank in a cycle.

What light do you use to grow your chaeto

Are there aquariums like bonsai tree style
No fish just coral that you slowly grow and shite like that?
Yes, but it's MORE labor intensive and the coral like fish shite, so you might as well have a few. Specifically grazers as they shite a whole lot.

They also recommend the same for their 21 gal nano.
There is no way. I don't understand how that tank is not a giant whirlpool.

Right now I have a JBJ nano led on the chaeto, but I may upgrade to the Kessil LED designed for that (H380) once the miracle mud is out and the chaeto has more room to grow

I don't want fish as i travel often for work to smooze and wheel and deal
I'd like to just grow coral or something pleasant in water as its peaceful and methodic movements soothe me

I'll have to check with other Reefer 170 owners to see what they use

It's not like fish take more maintenance than coral...the maintenance is the same whether it's 100% fish or 100% coral.

Yeah that Kessil refugium light looks nice but at $300 I would have a hard time justifying that expense for a refugium light

House flooded and I lost my reef, but there will be a new tank in the house once I am back in it.
Planet Aquarium 120g (48"Lx24"W) with an acrylic sump. I may start off with using the lighting setup from my old tank (36" ATI Sunpower) but will move to a 48" light if the spread and PAR isn't enough.
Reef Octopus skimmer, 2x Vortech MP40, Apex controller
Gave the old rock an acid bath this past week and will start soaking them and then beginning the curing process next week. Hope to start getting everything set up sometime in March

It really is the way to go. I have an coral filled nano with (1) Six-line wrasse to keep the pods under control. I feed the corals once a week and the wrasse every other day.

How hard is it to take care of fish?

They do if you don't want to feed your tank daily. I had my lights on timers and ATO going on the nano, I could go on vacation for a week without touching it.

Not hard at all...it's all about maintaining consistent, level parameters to keep the fish and coral happy. I've had some fish in my tank for almost 5 years now.
The fish isn't the hard part, it's keep your levels right that's difficult.
