An oil change with air and fuel filter service can run over $300
Only if you’re an idiot. Did mine myself and it was less than $150. I’m a woman and have changed my filters and oil since I was 16. I own an SUV and own a Ram 2500.

Yep..there are ways to save money on maintenance. People need to also remember while maintenance is more the intervals are wider apart.

I only change my oil every 7500 miles. I paid extra as I had the fuel filters changed out more than recommended.

I get 28 mpg out of my diesel F-150. Thats with leveling kit and 33's. Oil changes are no more than they were in my last gas burner.

have a 17 F250 that we use regularly to tow a 5th wheel and also a tractor . So far the 6.7 has been great with plenty of power and decent fuel economy. I have 103k on it and hope to get 200k more.
I do the maintenance on it myself and it’s not bad. The oil/ filter is about $100 using synthetic and a motorcraft filter. I do the fuel filters ($50) every other oil change . The air filter is once a year .
The towing capability for me outweighs the extra maintenance costs . Hopefully I can have this one awhile since they have increased a good bit since I bought this one.

I have a 2006 Chevy 2500, and do my own maintenance as well. It takes maybe 30 minutes to change the oil and fuel filter. Like you, I change the fuel filter every other oil change.

I am up to almost 215k miles and it runs perfectly. I think it runs better than it used to. I see no reason that I can't get to 500k. There is plenty of history with this exact same engine/model hitting 500k to over a million miles. The higher end of that is mostly highway though, which is why I said 500k for myself. I have changed both front wheel hub assemblies also. That is expected in higher milage. Cost about 500ish and took me about 4 hours.

The other factor you didn't mention is when towing, unlike with gas, your fuel economy only goes down a little bit.

I did all 4 shocks last year and have a steering stabilizer on the way. Bilstein is having supply issues like everyone else.
If I’m pulling my tractor I get in the 13.5 mpg range. The tractor and trailer are in the 9500 range. Towing the 5th wheel I’m getting 12.5-13 on average. It’s right at 10k. It is nice towing it at 65-70 on the interstate without downshifting every time I climb a hill. The turbo spools up and it does it’s thing. Much more pleasant to drive than my old Chevy 6.0 when towing.

Look at a late model Ford Super Duty with a 6.7L Powerstroke:

These rough estimates

MotorCraft Oil filter: FL2051 $20
13 qts 15w40 Rotello oil: $70

MotorCraft Air filter: FA1927 $70
MotorCraft Fuel filter kit: $80

Plus sales tax:$25

That's puts you close to $300
