Seems like every baw I know have or wants one. I wouldn't mind getting one and doing a delete if it was easy to pass inspection.

Used to be that they got better mileage and lasted longer if I recall correctly. Not sure that’s the case anymore without doing the Google

Modern diesels are very costly to buy and maintain. The emissions requirements have totally screwed up this once reliable platform.

And deleting, while possible, isn't a cake walk anymore either.

Thank your government for ruining one of the most reliable IC engine systems known to man. These people managed to screw up a gas can so not surprising.

Got rid of mine last year.

Maintenance costs got absurd as it got older.

Heavier duty parts cost more to replace.

My dad has one. I filled it up with diesel fuel while helping him with chores. Hope you have money. Diesel fuel is expensive and the trucks don't seem to get great mileage. While filling the tank a college age kid in a mini Cooper came up and started screaming at me about how I am causing global warming with my carbon footprint. Guess where I told him I was going to put the carbon footprint?

Buy farm diesel and get the additive that erases the red dye

Not saying I do that but I’ve heard from a friend of a friend it works perfectly

You are going to need deep pockets because they are expensive both to maintain and to repair.

An oil change with air and fuel filter service can run over $300.

Then you have repairs: fuel injectors, high pressure fuel/oil pumps, turbos, NOx sensors, DPF/SCR systems, tie rods, drag links, wheel hub assemblies, transmissions...

One repair will run into the thousands of $$$ and it would be extremely tough to get past an inspection.

It is now extremely complicated to do am EGR delete on todays diesel engines.

Diesel engines, pre-2003, were rock-solid and it was easy to get a millions miles on one.

My suggestion is not to get one unless you do a lot of heavy towing.

I have a Cummins turbo diesel in a 4x4 Ram 2500.

I have 125k miles and hope to get 250 or more. I’ve had no engine trouble.

I have a 17 F250 that we use regularly to tow a 5th wheel and also a tractor . So far the 6.7 has been great with plenty of power and decent fuel economy. I have 103k on it and hope to get 200k more.
I do the maintenance on it myself and it’s not bad. The oil/ filter is about $100 using synthetic and a motorcraft filter. I do the fuel filters ($50) every other oil change . The air filter is once a year .
The towing capability for me outweighs the extra maintenance costs . Hopefully I can have this one awhile since they have increased a good bit since I bought this one.

Had one myself for a few years. Torque was nice, made cool noises, but there weren’t any tangible benefits. Maintenance costs are high, emissions system is highly complex and prone to problems. In fact, some emissions technologies are bad for the engine, pretty much eliminating the longevity claims that could once be made for diesel engines. MPG was nice also, but diesel fuel costs more. And on top of all that, they cost much more up front. I won’t be getting another diesel.

I'm at 100K on mine. The most trouble I've had is the DEF sensor got stuck.

This stuff is very common, There are plenty of YouTube videos of pickup drivers being verbally abused by “greenies” I drive a Tundra, and it as happened to me, but the people weren’t combative about it.

Gas makes more sense for the vast majority of the population. I know someone that wants to get a diesel to pull their 21ft bay boat... really?

Now if diesel didn't have all the emissions crap and diesel was cheaper or the same price as gas as it has been most of my life the economics on it would change.

I've had 3 different 1 tons all 3500 Rams with the 6.7

While maintenance was higher (and fuel) I never had any major issues with them. Only the last one I had used DEF. But it wasnt that big of a deal.

I will say I was always happy with how well they held their value. I always traded mine in around 70k miles. I used them to haul a 5th wheel and as a daily driver when I didnt have a second vehicle.

You get addicted to the torque.....nothing like going up hill and hearing the transmission shift up rather than down shift like the gassers. It's a nice feeling.

Buying tires for the DRW is depressing though.

No mention of towing or hauling anything. Do you need something for that?

I can't imagine driving some lumbering 8k pound behemoth as a daily driver.

Its not as bad as everyone makes them out to be. I can do an oil change for $40 with an AC delco filter and shell rotella. Fuel filter every other oil change $45-50, and transmission filter every 50k for $20. Im at 148k on on my '16 duramax.

While it is true the tunes are harder to get these days, its well worth it. Ive had mine deleted since 87k and picked up 2-5mpg depending on city or highway. Diesel isnt that much more than regular gas at the pump. Plus i love having a 36 gallon tank so i dont have to stop as often
