What could go wrong with having almost 3 times the wattage that the system is designed for?
Your 55w are probably dim because you likely bought cheap bulbs.

This is the guy in the lifted truck blinding everyone with his ridiculous headlights in the stock headlight assembly.
Bro. Get some projector housings and HIDs. Quit blinding everyone, you frick.

It's amazing to me that the light bulbs in a vehicle can last for years, even with the bumps and constant vibrations from driving on the road, but a house light bulb won't last a fricking year, just sitting there in perfect conditions.
I guess what I'm saying is why don't they make house lights as tough as car lights?

I like to switch my plugs around so the high beams are on all the time.

Replace the plastic sockets with ceramic ones. They can take more heat.
Run wiring relays to the lights.
European headlamps are better. They put more light on the road. Consider swapping your current headlamps for what your car manufacturer produced for the European market.

If you're not blinding oncoming cars with super xenon headlights, you ain't bout shite.

Lightbulbs don't last in your home like they do in your car, because they were designed to fail. Read about The Phoebus Cartel.

How old are the bulbs? I ask because it says right on the packaging that the bulbs will get dimmer as they age in use and higher-performance lights have less useful life than standard bulbs. Just spend $50 on a pair of Sylvania Ultras and don't try your hand at automotive electrical stuff more complicated than swapping them in.
