They ain't getting $2500 for that. When you say starting from "basically nothing" it might be easier to start from nothing than start with that one. I'll bet that with that car, you will end up replacing 90% of what's siting there right now.

Agree. There are a lot of Mustang parts cars around at lower prices and in better condition than that heap of rust.

Dogs love a convertible ride except on super hot sunny days where that black interior turns the car into a mobile oven.

Run away like your hair was on fire and your arse was catching.

20k would barely get the ball rolling.

$50k at least, depending upon how much you can do yourself.

This is the kind of car the OP needs: 66 with a 289 V8: Under 10k, no convertible top issues and a nice reliable car you can drive ...

Abt 1954, a dodge 1940? pickup. Not a "classic restoration", just something drive able.

(It did get me through HS and the first 2 years of college.)

I’ve done a 67 and 68 coupe complete restoration and those 1st gen mustangs are notorious for rusting through the cowl vent area and then taking out the floor boards
Unfortunately that car is well beyond repair
Front panels look to have damage along with the rear driver panel is shite
The only thing on that car worth saving is the front bumper and driver side mirror
That’s that’s damn sure not worth $2500
Keep looking...

Car is in rough shape- unless you are truly skilled in restoration efforts and have some really good contacts as to parts and Mustang specialist/historian, I suggest you pass on this opportunity. It's not like you are restoring a Shelby or a Boss, so you will never recover your time and money spent on bringing it back. So in essence, I say pass before you lose your arse! Rather than spend $20k (and you better believe the project will exceed that amount) you would be better off to buy someone else's restoration. Not only would the restoration be expensive, keep in mind you would probably be looking at several years and by that time, you would most likely have grown tired of it and be wanting to pass the project on to someone else. I am a car buff and know several friends who took on car projects that were never finished. Sure, there are exceptions, I know one friend that did a 2 year full ground up Ferrari restoration that turned out beautiful. But again, after he drove it 1-2 years decided to sell it, he never recovered his money he put into it, but I guess it was a labor of love, so he didn't mind so much and he was well off money wise.
But again, unless you are talented enough to do most of the restoriation, be prepared to pay the piper, because the more they look into a project car, the more things they find wrong that adds to the restoration bill. In closing, good luck on making your decision, keep the OT updated!

Not a Ford fan but nice looking ride.

Updated a bit with the serpentine setup among plenty of other things I'm sure.

Please don't take this the wrong way. Many people are highly skilled mechanics or fabricators, but this is a different undertaking. If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't get involved with it. Without knowing more it's impossible to say how big of a project it will be. If i felt inclined to ask a college sports board about something tat can turn into a money pit like that, i would consider a different option.

I can completely see how it could be construed as a troll...

I'm embarrassed to say it wasn't
