Does remember a thread maybe a month or so ago about a jury duty scam?
I think I got a call this afternoon from these scammers. The guy left a message saying he was from the civil citations and warrants department but never gave a police or government affiliation. We called the number back and got an answering machine with the same nebulous department but no affiliation to any governmental department.

The phone number just pulls up garbage when googled.

In the message he left there was no mention of what the call was about.
It just reminded me of that thread.

You are supposed to leave your personal information on the answering machine.

Common scam. Just google jury duty scam.

Here is a notice from the federal court about the scam. LINK

They will even spoof a number so your caller ID makes it look like a sheriff or marshal is calling.

This was in the local paper recently:

quote:

The U.S. Marshals Service is warning the public of a nationwide telephone scam involving individuals claiming to be U.S. marshals, court officers or law enforcement officials seeking to collect a fine in lieu of arrest for failing to report for jury duty.

The U.S. Marshals Service does not call anyone to arrange payment of fines over the phone for failure to appear for jury duty or any other infraction. In order to appear more credible, the scammers may even provide information like badge numbers and the names of actual federal judges and courthouse addresses.

Victims have been told they can avoid arrest by paying a fine using a reloadable credit card, and were urged to call a number and provide their own credit card number to initiate the process. The Marshals Service urges the public not to divulge personal or financial information to unknown callers, even if they sound legitimate.

They tried to pull that bull shite on me. I was able to string him on for a few hours of phone calls wasting his precious time.

Hopefully, his time wasted yielded less old folks getting scammed.
