Quit a managerial job that I had in college. Went back to grad school for my masters in sports admin, can't find anything in the field. Started applying in every field, no response. Just scrambling to get hired for the summer... I'm the poster child for Murphy's law
My advice is like others have said, just have a good nest egg built up. Nothing can replace being miserable at work.

I'd recommend traveling or volunteering for something during the off time so it looks o.k. to future employers.
You should never use the words "burned out" or "miserable" at a job interview.

Well here's the story: I handed in my resignation a week after I started this thread. Ive went on a golf vacation, been lazy, worked around the house, and applied to over 50 different positions. So free just over a month and running on faith now. Just sharing.

Yep, last time I did it the company went bankrupt a few months later so 6 of one half dozen of another but at least I was employed elsewhere by the time they did.

Not a single day goes by that I don't think about quitting my job. I don't have the onions to do it though. I've never been the type that wings it and everything works out fine. It's usually the exact opposite.

I haven't worked at a "real" job in over a year. it's liberating to say the least.

I am. I need some chaos in my life. It seems to me more opportunity always exists in the unknown.

Several times. No regrets. I can deal with a little financial insecurity to get past a job I find no interest in or have a dislike for.
^ This.
Unless I absolutely NEED extra cash (ie food, shelter) I would rather have a job that I slightly like vs one that pays better but I detest.
