Took it for over two years - never had a problem. I had much trouble sleeping when I got off. Stayed off for a couple of years - terrible time sleeping. Doctor tried other meds - none worked well. Been back on ambien now for six months and sleep well every night.

I don't doubt that it can be addictive and in some cases cause people to do strange things. But I wonder about the number of stories where people wake up across town and in their underwear. I asked a pilot once how many people freaked out on Trans-Atlantic flights and he said something like, 'almost never--maybe once every 500-1000 flights and most of those are minor.' Seems like a lot of people take Ambien on those things.

I don't understand why you keep saying this. Just look at the modern science written into law by our government:
Schedule IV drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with a low potential for abuse and low risk of dependence. Some examples of Schedule IV drugs are:
Xanax, Soma, Darvon, Darvocet, Valium, Ativan, Talwin, Ambien, Tramadol

Yeah. People experiencing episodes like that is extremely rare when it's used like it's supposed to be. It's almost exclusively from being prescribed too high a dosage, and even then, people will STILL take multiple doses to sleep, making it even worse.

Ambien is shite medicine. I use Valerian Root. Natural herb. It works.Only side effect is it works really fast for me, but when I wake I feel great. No lingering side effects. Article on Valerian Root

My grandmaw was hospitalized for something and the doctors somehow missed her daily Ambien medication and cut her off cold turkey.
She flipped the frick out in her hospital room at the General. She saw clowns and ghosts and walls breathing among other descriptions she gave the personnel and my mom. Was scary shite until someone finally realized she hadn't taken her Ambien for the first time in years.

My wife took Lunesta for a short period of time with no side affects.
She quit taking it because she hates taking pills and hates having to get scripts refilled.
Ambien she wouldn't touch with a 12foot pole.
