I thought this thread could be it. But it isn’t.

No info needed. Just throwing the topic out there to see if anyone feels the same way. Details are irrelevant.

If you are asking if others are trying to fill the time until death, then I assure you that you are not alone.

Rams lose tomorrow and I'll be good for a week.

Sometimes what you want... you can't have.
Sometimes what you want... you have to take it/earn it.
Sometimes what you want... you just don't know what it takes to get it.
Life is crazy huh?

I wonder this specifically with sports. Sports are a major part of my life. I take baseball trips with my dad or my best friend. I love going to big CFB games. My life doesn’t revolve around it, I just incorporate it.
These things make me happy. Then I wonder: we root for teams and have an element of pride. But losing...isn’t much different than winning. For most of us, the joy of winning simply means we float on the rant. If your team loses, it stings a bit, but the older me gets over most losses quickly.
I’ll still find a way to check off every baseball stadium, and bucket list football games. Otherwise, I’m starting to look for a bit more.

Don't give in yet. You just haven't talked to yourself enough to know what you really want or more importantly like. Or enjoy.
About a year ago, I was resigned to leaving Dallas and moving back to east Texas and build on the land I'll inherit. About 300 acres now. But in the past 6 months I've probably changed all that because I can have that whenever I want. So... I'm almost certain by the end of the year I'll be going to either Durango, Ouray or Telluride area and just rent a tiny place all by myself. I have a good lead on a modest job at a less than 6 figure salary now and want to spend the next 10 or so years at least in a pretty place with low key people and very high relaxation. I want to spend my spare time - believe it or not - metal detecting and panning. A hobby with a return. I'm fascinated by it and have been for 20 years.
So, OP, just work to be happy. I'm 47 now. Single, daughter about to graduate and close to saying F it. Always live for happiness. I'm telling you that is all that matters.

I swore I'd never go to California because of the people and mentality that I figured would be hard to mesh with. But, 8 months ago I found myself being airlifted to a hospital, and in an ICU for a week. Got out, and decided to go to Big Bear lake. I'd have regretted never going. You can always learn if you allow yourself to.

Clint, you've nailed so much of what is a little known problem
Mark Twain said and I've never forgotten it
quote:
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”
