I am not a vegan but vegan food items are a part of my regular diet. It takes enormous will power, in my opinion, to be a full vegan.
For example, everyday I consume:
Kale
Raw apple cider vinegar
Natural peanut butter
Chia seeds
Almond milk
Unrefined coconut oil
I have been able to maintain a healthy weight and I feel fantastic.

I don't get the morality aspect of it seeing as we are designed to consume meat. Our teeth are designed to chew it and our digestive system is designed to break it down. I would also like to see what peoples idea of a proper life for a farm animal would be. They are raised to die, so who cares what they are raised like. I mean I don't want someone torturing the cow, but I couldn't care less if it frolicked around in a meadow or not.
What's worse are the people who do eat meat, but think someone whose willing to gut an animal is some psycho redneck. People are too naive and stupid. That's why a lot of people are vegetarian in my opinion. Society has been separated from having to actually do things themselves for so long, that no one could imagine having to clean their own food. Not being familiar with it makes it barbaric. Then people have moral objections because they've been isolated from reality.
I do think our meat portions in meals are too large though. I'm trying to include more veggies and salads to balance out my diet, but not because there's anything wrong with eating meat.

I don't have a problem with slaughtering an animal to eat. I do, though, have a problem with the mass slaughter factories that put animals in wretched conditions. It's part of the reason why I refuse to eat Tyson chicken. I respect any restaurant that gets their meat from farm-raised animals.

I tried a Vegetarian diet for a month. Lost weight and had no energy.

I will bite here. I am NOT vegan. I cheat on weekends. But I have cut my animal products by 75% I would guess. Have not drank a glass of milk in 2 years. Except for one monster pepper I underestimated at a Mexican place.
Buddy of mine got into it with Dr. MacDougall and Starch Solution. Other friends are now hardcore.
I now cheat on weekends and am looking to cut into that as well. Purely health reasons. I feel the best I feel all day after breakfast. Which is a vegan fruit or veggie smoothie and toast with a vegan butter sub.
Meat became a staple over the years. It never should have been. Fruits and vegetables became garnishes.

I have never been a "vegetarian" but I will go on vegetarian diets for a week or two when I want to eat a little cleaner. Usually I do a pesca vegetarian diet so I can still have seafood if I want to change things up
For ethical reasons I try to buy cage-free and free range products, but if it's not available I get what I can

I love vegetables but there's no way I could be a vegetarian or vegan. If anything I feel better when I eat meat than on days when I don't. I do like some vegetarian dishes though.
I knew a vegetarian in college and she ate the shittiest food. Lots of carbs, processed crap, candy, fries, ice cream, alcohol, you name it. She's gained around 20 lbs. since I last saw her too--and she's still eating veg.
The Paleo crowd is definitely annoying with their "is this Paleo" BS. And a lot of them will eat bunless burgers daily; it isn't healthy to eat that much ground beef, even if grass-fed.

Just curious, but what are your workout goals? Are you looking to lose weight? Maintain? Lean out? Bulk up? What's weight are you aiming for? (relative to size, obviously)

I'm from Avoyelles Parish where we stuff the organs of dead animals with the meat from other dead animals, so no I'm not a vegetarian. Lol. I couldn't imagine going through life without the delicacies that we eat here on a regular basis such as the pork backbone in a gravy I cooked this past Saturday. To each his own though.

10-4, sounds like you're on the right path. I don't know as much as many about the intricacies of diet, and am admittedly skeptical of vegan/vegetarian with little to go on. I know it's not my thing though. I love a good ribeye or filet too damn much
I'm also 5'9" 180 and happy with that...wouldn't mind a little less body fat, but I like my weight.
Keep us updated with your results over time if you're going to do this long term.

What are your reasons? Health? Ethical? Have you noticed differences in your health or how you feel?
ethical, didn't feel a strong as when I ate meat. You get used to the feeling, but nothing beats the energy you get when you eat meat.
IF anything, you should eat meat, but just limit the amount(2-3 times a week)

I haven't eaten red meat in 3+ years, maybe 4 now. I definitely noticed a difference when I stopped.
