You are asking on a site where most live basically under water.


I know in desert climates the large scale whole house evaporative coolers indeed work and I know some of the larger evaporative coolers also work well. I have no idea how well the room sized ones work.

Physics, and it is the right assumption for multiple reasons.

Aside from humidity control mentioned in another post, two things come to mind that directly affect efficient cooling. One, the condenser coils on a window unit are outside the house so the heat is transferred much more efficiently to the outdoor air than a portable unit venting it out. Two, most of the heat-generating equipment is effectively outside the house.
