Who actually states executive MBA on their resume? All you need to say is MBA.

The only way for a part-time/executive MBA grad to truly mislead a potential employer into believing s/he completed a full-time program is to delete 2 years of work history.

Executive MBA is actual business managers vs the theory in an MBA class. Nice try, but as someone that's been through the EMBA program the connections alone were worth the program. I paid around 17k in my program & I can tell you my company recovered that 17k about 10 times.

OT a little bit...what happens if you don't have the 3.0 minimum GPA to get into the EMBA program? Any sort of waiver or probationary period available.

Don't judge...I worked my arse off for my BSEE and I worked 40 hours a week for HiLo Auto parts during college.

who cares? I'm not paying you any more or less because you did a traditional MBA. In fact, id rather an EMBA. 23 year old taking MBA classes has no clue what goes on in businesses outside of what they read in a book. An EMBA has 8+ years of experience to relate material to.

He is talking about going to an actual college like UH or A&M not University of Phoenix.

DEFINITELY as long as it is not the University of Phoenix. I taught for them briefly. My dog could have gotten a degree through them. We quickly parted company and I eventually landed with the LSU system teaching part-time in addition to my day job.

If anything, UOP needs to be shut down.

Or don't list the year of graduation on the education portion of your resume?

Regarding Univ of Phoenix, I'd have to say that people's experiences are highly variable.

Case in point: my family member graduates high school in the mid-80's with 4.0 GPA and 31 or so ACT score. Gets engineering degree at well-respected out of state major university, graduates on time and first job is with NASA at age 23. He gets married and starts a family and after a few job changes and 15 years later, does an online MBA program through Univ of Phoenix.

He says it was tough but very valuable. That means something, coming from him.

He is now in a PhD program (don't know which university) in his late 40's.

I have never done an online degree program, but from what I hear, I wouldn't automatically trash them without further investigation.

Direct me to a reputable university that has a 17K EMBA program please. Georgetown is about $134K here and they're just a top 50.

Yep...did it just over 10 years ago. I was traveling with work, getting my 6-sigma black belt and my E-MBA at the same time. Nearly had a freakin mental breakdown about 2/3 of the way through it. That being said, I would do it again. Nothing like putting things to practice at work while in the program. Also, the people in the program have real working experience...unlike most in traditional MBA programs who jump into it straight from their undergrad program.

BTW...I was the rare exception that had an employer who would pay 100%, with no obligation to stay on afterwards. It was too good a deal to pass up.

I have a M.Ed and my boss said he would pay for my MBA but he said it honestly won't progress my career faster than where I am now.

In my field, a CSP/ASP is weighted much higher than a masters.

I had my CSP, and M.S. before getting my E-MBA. While it may not help you as much in the Safety field, it will help you advance in management advancement. I would agree that you should go for professional certifications first.

BTW...I'm still contemplating sitting for the CIH next year.

I wouldn't say he is discouraging it, as he offered to pay for it. But he says with my current masters, he doesn't think a new one will be as beneficial as it would be for someone without it.

Go to a Span Safety Workshops course and get your CSP first. That doesn't take long to prepare for, and take. Then, definitely, go after the free MBA. As I said before...I already had my CSP and M.S. before getting my EMBA. It opened doors for me that otherwise would have remained closed. BTW...I did stay in the Safety field.

Finished it in 2015. It is a solid program. Working on my MHA there now and it seems to be a better program in my opinion.

Thanks. Did you take MADM 752? What did you find to be the most difficult course?

No I did the concentration in finance. My least favorite was the Leadership Communication class, but it wasn't that hard. Hardest was prob ISDS 702.

Are you in the program now?

Those that have never done online study seem to have the idea that you just watch some online material and answer some questions. My son is doing a online MBA, the amount of time he spends online is just a fraction of the time required to complete the work. He says it is just as challenging as his undergrad engineering courses.

I'm currently doing an online MBA through Auburn and its a bitch.

Its the same classes, they literally just video them and post them online that day. Really sucks getting home from a long day at work and having to do school work.
