Nope. Had a cultural anthropology professor from there that studied incest in the Northeast region. I'd probably avoid that region.

When we looked in to going we figured on 7 days, but 5 could be considered for a short stay.

Travel time is what made us think it would take that long.

You need more than a long weekend. It's where my family is from. I'll be going again in 15 days. My favorite place on earth. When are you planning on going and I can help you out a lot more.

Went this past summer. Where are you staying? Do you plan on renting a car? What's a "long weekend"? I went for 13 days and feel like I should have spent a month

Yep. Minimum needed to just see the south is 7 days. That's what we're gonna do in February but really our main goal is seeing the northern lights. Taking my gf and two friends who have never been out of the country so should be a fun time to take them around but in the summer a month is needed to see most of the island. But it will also cost you. Air BnB is great in Iceland. There are plenty of places for under 100 a night when most of their hotels are very expensive. Luckily we still have family all over the island so we never have to pay for a spot but it can get very expensive very quick.

I went in September for a week. It was incredible and would go back plenty more times. If you're into hiking, check out the Laugavegur trail.

The Mighty Ducks taught me that everyone in Iceland is a giant douche.

I guess using the Russians as bad guys was played out in the early 90's.

The best time to go is in late Sept and Oct to see the northern lights.

Ok so in March you'll be getting a lot more sun than the winter months obviously. Roads will be starting to get better so transportation around the entire island will be pretty much a go. If you want to see the basics then the golden circle is the way to go. You get to see geyser, tons of waterfalls, the big one being gulfoss, and thingvellir national park. If you want to see the black sand beaches you will have to go a little farther and go to vik. It's a small town on the southern shoreline and there are available places on air BnB in vik which helps. If you go a little farther you can reach vatnajokull the biggest glacier in Europe. There is a wonderful glacier bay where you can take a little 30 min tour in a boat and more of the glacier. Beautiful. If you want to stay on the western side you have the western fjords, reykholt (a less touristy blue lagoon) and snaefellsjokull (the volcano where Jules Verne said they went in to make it to the center of the earth). When you get off your flight, depending on time I would just go ahead and hit blue lagoon, while very touristy it is still very fun, and relaxing after a 6 hour flight, book ahead if you can and save some $$. It's also on your way into Reykjavik so you won't have to go out of your way at all. Let me know if you go and I'll tell you some must eat at restaurants. Hope you decide to go and have a great time!

We are leaving next Wednesday for a quick 5 day trip to Reykjavik. I wanted to see the Northern Lights and Denver - Reykjavik flights were dirt cheap direct. Mostly looking to drink, listen to live metal, visit a few hot springs and see the Northern Lights.

I'll give you a trip report upon my return.
