Used to love Montezuma, not so much last time I was there. But Playa Teresa and Playa Carmen, Malpais is my spot. Also South of Jaco towards Esterillos are some nice little surf breaks. Mi' Amigo owns land on the beach at a little place called Playa Palma. I hope to build a house with him there soon. Pura Vida.

Want to know how I know I'm gonna love Costa Rica? Cause I'm gonna pull $250 bucks out and carry 3 Ticas that look like the ones in the above pic up to my room for a 4-way. I've had a 3-way with 2 girls twice in my life for free. I'm willing to pay for a 4-way. Especially when it's dirt cheap

Sounds like you have it all worked out. I hope to run into some expats while I'm there and ask them all about their experience in retiring there. Everything I read points to a man could retire early with $500,000-$750,000 in 401K along with company retirement and live a VERY comfortable life there. I've also read that Costa Rica has very respectable hospitals/medical care.

Jaco VIP Fishing Charters

Check out their villas if they are in the budget, its definitely an experience I will never forget. I went down there for a bachelor party 3 years ago and it was nothing short of 24/7 madness, in the very best of ways. Most mornings I woke up with a few naked girls sleeping in my bed that I had never met, and others on the couches downstairs.

You can arrange EVERYTHING through them, and I mean everything from 25+ naked ladies waiting in the pool when you get home from the clubs, to a wooden cigar box sitting on your bed when you first arrive---but filled with something Tony Montana would endorse.

The trip was admittedly something that sounded so far-fetched when it was being planned, and I can attest that everything you hear about that place is 10,000% true.

Wife and I went to Jaco for our honeymoon, but we didn't fish. It was a really small, laid-back place. It will probably rain every day after like 2pm. I never really felt like I was in danger or anything, but I would just question anyone who tries to sell you something unsolicited. Chances are they know you're not from there and they're trying to get you to pay for something you should have to pay for (like a parking spot or something). The little downtown area has some pretty good grub. There was an Argentinian steakhouse there that was legit but I forget the name.

That picture I posted on the first page is my girlfriend's dad's condo. Directly next door to the Croc's Casino or whatever it's called. Right on the beach, and I think he pays $1,800 a month. His condo would cost a fortune anywhere around where I live. I'm pretty sure it's cheap as hell to live there. You'll meet a ton of expats, pick their brains. We went to a couple restaurants and bars on the beach at night that were 90% Americans.

How to retire to Costa Rica

I think you have to prove retirement income of $1000 per month to retire there. The link I provided is a very good read. The almighty U.S. dollar goes a long way in Central America. Like I said in a earlier post, a man could put $500,000 in 401k along with company retirement and have a VERY comfortable life there. Or so I've read/heard. I can't wait to go talk to some expats, check out homes, price of living, and anything else I can study up on.

I have also read about young couples moving to Costa Rica and living free year around by house sitting for people. There are so many people with second homes there that there is a website dedicated to match home owners in Costa Rica with house sitters. They live there, take care of the home, lawn, any pets and all they pay are utilities. Most cases they don't have to pay utilities. Sounds like a sweet set up for a young couple trying to save money.

Sorry for the delay,
I had a helluva day.
No, I don't live there, but I do consider it a "second home" of sorts.
I have spent a lot of time in CR, in Panama, & in Nicaragua. CR more than the others.

I lived there in 2004.

At the time there was a large influx of Americans and Canadians. To do so now it will not be the bargain it once was as prices have greatly inflated. You've missed the boat by about 10yrs.

Costa Rica has no military so police officers carry fully automatic weapons everywhere and are crooked as hell.
