I was stationed in Germany for a year.
It's hard to say which country or town was the best.
Liked going up in the mountains.

The best places in Europe are outside of the cities. Actually, I've only been in two Euro cities that I liked and generally couldn't stand some of the others. The smaller towns and cities are great.

Some of my favorites:
Cochem Germany

Fussen Germany
LINK

Toledo Spain
LINK

And many more. I missed a ton of stuff too. Could spend years doing the small towns. Screw cities like London which fricking suck.

Lucerne, Switzerland is awesome. Beautiful area! We were there in the middle of summer and I don't think it got over 78.

Spent a lot of time in Ireland, both Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. Absolutely amazing place.

I spent a few days in Luxembourg a number of years back. I was really impressed with the history architecture and people.

Olympos, Turkey.

Hands down one of the coolest places I have ever been. Stayed at a villa down near the beach. The water was an unbelievable shade of green. They are hot springs in the water the bubble up warm water in certain areas that are cool to explore. The beach is surrounded on all sides by awesome limestone cliffs. Take a short drive and explore Mt. Olympos where there is actual fricking fire coming out of the mountain in several areas as you walk up the rocks. Bring a bottle of booze and spit some on the fire. Then you can take a bike ride and go exploring some cool Roman ruins and do some cliff diving. Had an awesome weekend there.

Oberammergau, Germany.

Quaint little town where they hold the Passion Play every 10 years.

Also, I know it's been mentioned already, but Neuschwanstein Castle is badass

I've been there. I saw some pretty cool/freaky shops in Oberammergeau. I saw some of the stills from the play and it was like Mel Gibson was directing it. Stopped by on the way from Fussen to Garmisch.

I liked Fussen over Oberammergau because it's a fair size bigger, but still walkable, has a lake, and Neuschwanstein is a 10 minute drive. Didn't really care for the castle itself but loved the hiking around the base of the castle. If your in Germany and want a real German castle, go to Burg Eltz. It's been owned by the same family for freaking 800 years. It's on the Moselle.

Speaking of the Moselle, Trier is pretty freaking awesome. Didn't spend much time there, but still saw some stuff. Also very close to Luxembourg if you want a day trip.

Yeah, O-gau is pretty secluded. Sleepy, quaint little town. Some nice hiking trails around there, though.

We did a pretty funny tour in Trier. Definitely not politically correct but interesting. It used to be a capital of the Roman Empire

Trier is one of the older cities of Europe. Some of the highlights are:

Porta Nigra

Roman Baths

And the Bishop-Prince Palace

Also, though I saw a couple of hotties in Munich (which I thought was just ok), the ratio of hot girls was significantly higher in Trier. And a friend said some parts of the town reminded them of Paris (i've never been)

I'm in Europe now, but have stayed primarily in big cities. Most unique is Cinque Terre and Sorentto which I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned more.

Every person I've ever met who has gone to Croatia has loved it.
