Our all boys Catholic school does it and it seems to be a pretty positive thing. Crazy how there are hardly any discipline problems and everybody seems to get along. Way different than when I was in school.

Celebration, Florida tried something similar years ago and I think it flopped.

Houses are common in Prep Schools. Especially in Commonwealth countries, and former colonial holdings.

Copper Mill (5th and 6th grade school) in Zachary does this by hallways.
