Do not get the guinea pig. Worst smelling pet we've ever had. If you must get a rodent, the fancy rat is the best. It doesn't bite and actually will play. Of course, dog is the best.

Don’t get a guinea pig....they can pass diseases to you and your children(ex: salmonella, plague, etc).

Just get a dog, get a smart breed. Train it. Be much easier on you.

These little pets will just annoy you.

Have a 10 and 8 year old and we haven’t made the plunge to get a dog yet. I’m leaning towards a dog but the kids are asking about a guinea pig.

Went to Petsmart today and it sounds like a lot of work and upkeep.

If I’m going to spend the monthly maintenance and costs for hay, cage stuffing, and food, why not just get a dog.

my 12 yr old has two Guinea Pigs.

Relatively cheap and easy to care for. Stuffing and Hay may cost you $20 a month. They eat the frick outta lettuce and cucumbers(cheap) as treats but they'll need more nutrition.

I didn't realize Guineau pigs made noises like they do nor that they got pretty fricking big.

I knew they'd smell like the rats they are. I won't touch them nasty little fricks.

Otherwise they are good little pets that my daughter loves. Makes her happy.

Makes sure she always washes her hands after touching them and don't let her kiss them.

Guinea pigs have been responsible for salmonella outbreaks.
