Prices are down a little but definitely not as much as they should.

I realize with the cheaper fare, there is going to be an expected quality drop off...

You might consider if that quality drop off bleeds in to the maintenance department as well or quality may not be the only thing dropping in the Spirit Airlines world.

Heard a Planet Money podcast with the CEO of Spirit, and he explained pretty well their strategy. (He also admitted their marketing stinks)
Most airlines charge you for checking a bag and food, but they wrap it into your ticket price. Spirit just charges the seat, and then you pay a la carte for everything else. You don't have to pay for stuff you don't use, but you pay for everything you do. If you go in with the right expectations I think you will be fine. They are cheap and operate that way.

The planes are small too, so for a short flight you are fine

With few planes, and no leverage against the big airlines for getting gates after delays, Spirit sucks balls when things go wrong.

Don't know where you're getting your information. I've flown them three times and paid exactly zero dollars to bring a carry-on

I flew them for the first and last time a few months ago. Checking a few days before, checked bags were like $30 each and carry-ons were $35. More the day before/day of/at the airport. The only free carry-on is something that will fit under the seatin front of you, unless their prices are different for different flights.

Flew with them from New Orleans to Houston on a short overnight trip. Packed a back pack and I was fine and didn't get charged any extra fees. You will quickly notice you are not flying with the other carriers by the quality of the plane. They are older planes and the seats are busted up. If you are going to fly a short trip and you don't require the perks of the other airlines I would recommend them.

I might have a different review if I was flying more than an hour but for a short trip I would say go for it.

Yup, I magically knew what size carry-on I could bring and never got charged. Maybe I have ESP with Spirit or something

I'm usually loyal to Southwest, but I've used Spirit a lot because I fly between NOLA and Chicago frequently on the weekends. I've never had any problems, but I know a lot of people who have. I probably would pay a bit more on a different airline if it was a high travel time. Recently paid $80 round trip though, so you can't really beat that.

Gotta plan ahead, baw. Probably wouldn't if I was looking at a $300 round trip.
