You get a seat on a plane, that's it. If you don't go in expecting the first class treatment, and are a realist, you won't be upset. People bitch and moan about them, but they forget that they just paid half as much for their ticket

Highly unlikely to happen. Like someone else said the worst is if you are delayed or canceled because they will not rebook you or anything. So you'll pay way more than you save booking on another airline same day.

If you do decide to do it know that it is actually more expensive to bring a carry on than to check a bag. The only free thing is a small backpack that can fit under the seat in front of you. So if you can pack in that for the weekend you can save money. Check in online, pay ahead, know that they will charge you for everything, even water. My brother-in-law had to pay $100 for his carry on at the airport because he had not pre-checked and prepaid.

ETA: the reason they are unlikely to be on time is in part because they have so few planes. A storm in Dallas that delays a flight from LA could wind up canceling your flight in Houston.

I gotcha. Makes sense.

I'm trying to fly out the same day of the game, and I'd have about a 4 hour cushion to work with. Hoping it works out. Either way, for $68, I figure it's worth the risk.

Don't know where you're getting your information. I've flown them three times and paid exactly zero dollars to bring a carry-on

Got a literally "plane leaving in 27 minutes to Chicago if you want that" flight for $125...

It's a no frills, no bullshite, just a flight to get you somewhere airline and in that capacity, they're the tits.

I'm planning on doing it again with a little more planning that 27 min for sure.

when I flew to Dallas it was 20 dollar for a carry on each way but a personal bag was free. Maybe longer flights a carry on is free.

I used them recently. Roundtrip NO / Dallas.

They have a box they will stick your carry-on bag in if it looks too big. If it is too big, get ready to fork over $100.

There were almost riots both times I was boarding bc people were unaware of the carry-on policies. Both flights were delayed.

I had a booksack with a pair of jeans, few shirts, and a laptop and I wasn't charged.

It's not bad at all if you go in with low expectations. It's great for weekend trips and the like.

what's the difference for how long the stay is? You are still flying to and from, no matter how long the stay is for.

I flew direct to Chicago from MSY before. Great price, and I reserved one of the "first class" seats in the front. Lots of room and great deal. Seats weren't that comfy though, but the flight was smooth and the snack/drink options were reasonably priced.

Just bring a carry on with you. Check bag fees are kind of pricey.

Short stays = no need for bags that cost money to fly

At least that's the way I took it.

And if you did need clothes or something you had to buy, you could mail it back to yourself cheaper than their baggage fees.

That's because they're stupid. If you know what you're getting into Spirit isn't bad at all. I've flown with them numerous times and the only thing I pay for is the exit row seat.

OP, go to Costco and get this Ciao bag for $30. It counts as your free personal item and fits a ton of stuff. It also fits under the seat.

Frontier is very similar to Spirit. Your carry on is free but pay up to $50 for a check bag.

Pretty much. Flying on a vacation with wife and kids for a week and those baggage fees get pretty outrageous. Funny thing is the airlines have benefitted from lower fuel costs, but there hasn't been any relief in any baggage fees. They aren't whining about fuel now, they are cashing in.

I found them on accident by using GoogleFlights. Then I went directly to their website from there. I'll be flying out of Denver, so it's a short flight. Glad I checked them out so far.

And you're right, there's a decent chance I won't have to worry about it at all

Checked on a flight to Vegas from MSY in June and ranged from $130-180 or so. One in January for ~$70. May wait till closer till the possible fly out date to book
