I was wondering if anyone knows of classes (online or in person) that would take me from A-Z on Automotive repair. I have a good deal of general knowledge on car maintenance and do much of the work myself. However, I would like to take a full community college or online course to better understand all the details that go with building an engine, transmission and its components.

Anyone have an idea how or where I could do it? I looked online and I can't find anything. Maybe I am missing out on a few buzzwords in my searches.

I am not looking for a career change. I love my current work.

Cars are just a fun hobby that I enjoy when I am not in the office. Its like my version of golf or hunting.

Yes. They thought me what perfectly intact plugs to pull to insure maximum profit from the customer.

No, but BRCC just built an automotive training center and they have a collision center under construction. Check with your nearest CC to see what they offer.

Auto transmissions is a specialty in itself. I have rebuild an engine but more power to the guy that can rebuild a transmission. So many parts that look similar and have to be in precise order.

I would take classes on everything automotive except transmissions

Buy a car and start working on it. Back when I worked in an auto shop in my teens/early 20's there was no internet so we had a collection of Chilton books and a couple of grizzly old fricks that had worked on cars forever.

The internet has changed all of that. Honestly Youtube is wonderful. My dad has been a mechanic for 50 years. He tells me that he spends most of his days reading online forums, watching Youtube and stuff like that to address things today. I have another friend who works for a shop. They have a subscription to an online service that gives them the steps to every single job they want to do with pictures.
