Anyone ever get Atmos gas specially installed for their home?

There's a line across the street from me but to get it to me, they would have to install probably 100-120 yards of pipeline to my house. Any idea how much this would cost me? Trying to have a whole-house natural gas generator installed. Someone told me $6,000 just for the access but I'm hoping that's grossly over estimated.
Has anyone here done this before?

My mother lives about 900 feet off of the road, local gas company told her they'd charge $45/foot to install a line.
She's currently looking into private contractors to do the work.

That's an insanely high figure. Would a private contractor even be able to install a gas company's line??

I think they can from the road to the house; still would have to pay for the right to "access" the main line.
At least that is my understanding of it all.

They do not usually charge for bringing it across the street, but the 100 yds would be a cost. Where are you located? Atmosphere has salespeople since it is not a neccisarry utility. They have some wiggle room and are easy to get a quote from.

Trying to make you the sucker to post the bill to hop the road.

Where do you live? I know some folks in the company I could put you in touch with to get a quote?

6k seems way too much. I work for a contractor that puts in generators and we've worked with Atmos to put in meters at houses with no existing service.
Usually around 1000 to 1500 they wore them. But if you tell them you're going to become a customer, converting electric ac unit or electric water heater to gas, in the near future, they've knocked a few hundred off that price.

In 2003 we had gas line run for new house. Eight dollars a foot sticks in my head but could be wrong. It was over five hundred feet and a little over four grand, Atmos told us if any of our neighbors tied in we would get some of our money back, no one ever jumped on within the time window they stated. Glad we did it.

LINK $ and rent a ditch witch, run it from your house to the road and get them (Atmos) to put gas meter. you may have to get a plumber to make connect at meter and at house

quote:yes and they would install their own shut off valve at the tie in.

I had Atmos run from across the street to my house, maybe 100ft 4 years ago to my generator for 1200$.

Can you get a propane tank? I use propane to heat water, for my stove and dryer. It runs me about $25/month for the gas and lasts a year and that's for a small tank. And there was no charge to install the tank. If full it would last 2 months for a partial house generator of 5 kw.

Atmos won't allow you to run the high pressure line. If you live way off the road but it is on your property, they will put the meter at the road and let you run it. Before the meter not so much.

Before they were Atmos, back in the 90's I had them install gas at my home. There was already a gas line in the subdivision. I cannot recall exactly what it was but they gave me some sort of deal for becoming a new gas customer. I did it when I replaced electric water heater.
Tip: also had the guy who ran gas lines to put Tees in the line so as other appliances went out they could be replaced with gas.
