Checking in with a 12 year old. He's hilarious but can be mean as hell to bigger dogs and small children.

On rainy days, he wakes up with this look on his face that says "Wet weather? Yep, gonna be shittin in the house today. Deal with it."

"Being the owner of dachshunds, to me a book on dog discipline becomes a volume of inspired humor. Every sentence is a riot. Some day, if I ever get a chance, I shall write a book, or warning, on the character and temperament of the dachshund and why he can't be trained and shouldn't be. I would rather train a striped zebra to balance an Indian club than induce a dachshund to heed my slightest command. When I address Fred I never have to raise either my voice or my hopes. He even disobeys me when I instruct him in something he wants to do."

Had one and now the ex has him. To me he's great and my son. He hates everyone else in the entire world

Barks like crazy when anyone walks in and bit a woman's hand so bad that she has to go to the ER. That wasn't cheap

He whines everytime food is being eaten and it drive me fricking nuts. I will never get another male dog and never again on a fricking weiner dog. If she would have brought him here he would have been at the pound many moons ago

When my other two passed I was devastated. My old man was 15 and I had had him since I was 9.

And yes they are so damn stubborn. You don't really train them they train you. And they really are the best watch dogs in the world. Loud as hell and bark all the time, but that's just typical dachshund to me.

Have had one for 18 years (not by my choice). Came home and there he was.

Having been surrounded by dogs my whole life, I can say he's more like a cat than dog. He's an ankle chomper and a great mouser in the yard killing moles and squirrels. Sleeps a lot and has never been the kind of dog to get on your lap and sleep or play fetch.

Now he's at the end of the trail and can't see or hear and loves to piss on the floor and won't shed tears when he passes on.

Sounds like you have a defective one. MIL’s dachshund is very affectionate and playful.

Had one for 16 years. Was a loveable lap dog that lived to eat and crawl under a blenket if not on a lap. Stubborn, impossible to house train and could be mean to strangers.i would get another but now i have grandkids and they're better than dogs.

AT&T slammed two vans into our side, Chief. We was comin' back from the street of Sherwood Forest to Millerville - just delivered the modem, the gigablast. Eleven men went into the street. Van went down in 12 minutes. Didn't see the first dachshund for about half an hour - a miniature - thirteen incher. You know how you know that when you're on the street, Chief? You tell by lookin' from the ear to the tail. What we didn't know was our cable mission had been so secret, no 911 had been sent. They didn't even list us overdue for a week. Very first light, Chief, dachshunds come cruisin'. So we formed ourselves into tight groups. You know, it was kinda like old squares in the battle like that you see in the calendar named 'The Battle of Waterloo.' And the idea was, the dachshund comes to the nearest man and he starts poundin' and hollerin' and screamin'. Sometimes the dachshund go away. Sometimes he wouldn't go away. Sometimes that dachshund, he looks right into ya, right into your eyes. Y'know, the thing about a dachshund, he's got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes. When he comes after ya, he doesn't seem to be livin' until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white, and then - aww, then you hear that terrible high-pitch screamin', the street turns red, and in spite of all the poundin' and the hollerin', they all come in and rip ya to pieces. You know, by the end of that first dawn, we lost 5 men. I don't know how many dachshunds, maybe a thousand. I don't know how many men. They averaged 1 an hour. On Thursday morning, Chief, I bumped into a friend of mine, Herbie Robinson from Cleveland. Baseball player. Cable layer. I thought he was asleep. I reached over to wake him up. Bobbed up, down on the street just like a kinda top. Upended. Well, he'd been bitten in half below the waist. Noon the fifth day, Mr. Hooper, an Eatel van saw us. He swung in low and he saw us. He was a young pilot, a lot younger than Mr. Hooper. Anyway, he saw us and he come in low and three hours later, a big fat Cox truck comes down and start to pick us up. You know, that was the time I was most frightened - waitin' for my turn. I'll never put on a yellow jacket again. So, eleven men went in the street, three men come out, and the dachshunds took the rest, June the 29th, 2017. Anyway, we delivered the modem.

Sam my 16 year old Dachsund....

Towards the end he would go out to pee. He would put his front paws in the grass thinking his hind legs were in the grass also. Then you would see the little puddle form. That’s when I knew it was getting close.
