Anyone else going through the RestoreLA program?

Just got my first grant offer: $2,600.
Reconstruction estimate: $116,000.
We got 18k from FEMA, 14k for my car being totaled and 25k from SBA. The rest we have paid out of pocket (no flood insurance since we were and are still not in a flood zone, we have it now though).
I can accept, refuse or petition to have it re-evaluated. While I am leaning toward petitioning I wanted to get a gauge from others that may have already gone through the process to see what their results were.

Holy shite man. How much water did you get?

How did you get Restore $ after a SBA loan? Thought that made you ineligible. Has the congressional fix already gone through?

A 3,000 sq ft house with 3 feet of water will cost quite a bit to repair.

116k is one of the higher amounts I've heard. My dad got about 2 feet (not in a flood zone) and I think he paid 60k out of pocket. His house is about 2000 sq ft.

We got our letter a few weeks back saying we didn’t get approved for anything. The SBA loan situation caused us to not be eligible for the grant. We were approved for right at 100kin SBA but only took 25k. They still held the told 100k as a duplication of benefits. I still haven’t been able to figure out if congress fixed that issue though. If they did, I planed to appeal it

Call Sen Cassidy or Graves’s office. Graves had a total fix of the SBA duplication of benefits put into the Disaster Recovery Reform Act. It went through the House but has been altered in the Senate through budget negotiations. Graves said the budget screwed LA. A Senate staffer told the Advocate that folks that were only approved for a SBA loan or only took a portion of what they were approved for could get Restore $. Not sure which is which but one of their offices should be able to help you.

10 inches, but remember you should take out 2x of wall and insulation because of wicking. At that point though you may as well have had 2 feet because you've got to not only remove your walls, carpet and insulation but all cabinets, door frames and any bath/shower on an outside wall in order to get the insulation out. We also had a sunken den so in there it was 14 inches.

You might be thinking of FEMA vs SBA. I don't think Restore is supposed to be counting it (or at least not counting FEMA). I know Garret Graves has been working on this "duplication" bullshittery but nothing has been signed into law as yet.

Is that cash money to use however you want or a voucher to use an approved contractor? My SO has the paperwork but it looks pretty intrusive. They want tax returns, proof of income, permission to inspect your house, etc. She's unsure whether she wants to go through with it.

Right now SBA loan is considered a duplication of benefits.
Gov. Edwards asking to fix Dup of Benefits 9/17
ETA: I got a nice letter saying because I got an SBA loan I was awarded $0 from Restore.

May I ask what phase are you in?

6
If I remember correctly, phase 6 would be eligible for up to 25% of rebuilding costs.
Even taking the ~25k from SBA into account as well as the money from FEMA and the insurance from my car being totaled what we're being offered isn't even 5% of the leftover amount. Granted, it's at least something but the amount being offered doesn't really add up after going through all the paperwork. They must be using some secretive weighting system like FEMA uses, but what it could be I have no clue.

Straight cash.
Your SO should go through with it because the worst that can happen is you get nothing.

If they ever change that I can't help but wonder if people like yourself will get a retroactive grant (I hope so).

What did you have to do besides submit the forms? Did you send a copy of your tax return? Did they inspect the premises?

We got turned down for a grant because of the duplication of benefits on the sba loan(we got approved out did not accept). I have had communications with restore and the have confirmed that the new bill does provide relief. It does not consider turning down the duplication. They advised me that the new rules have not been fully implemented, and when it does, they will contact me.
We were in phase 3 and can get 50% reimbursement on both repair outstanding and completed.

I was approved for 120k SBA loan. We decline all of it for fear of government bullshite. Paid everything out of pocket that fema didn’t cover. We got $23k from them.
RestoreLA gave us $0. Because we were approved for the loan, it got counted toward our total. Didn’t matter that we didn’t take any of it.
Between that bullshite and the bullshite that was the LA Shelter At Home, frick this fricking government. State and federal.

That has to be the biggest crock of shite in all of this. In what reality does that even make sense? How can you hold something that someone didn't even do against them?
