I left at 11. But wish I would have gotten there sooner to look at craft areas before rodeo.

You can't have ice chests, they don't sell beer, and you can't have knives or weapons. Keep in mind that the inmates are just walking around with you once you get past the gates to the crafts and arena. They are all on their best behavior, but just keep your wallet where you can feel it

I may have just got lucky, but if you come into Angola, see if the officer directing traffic will send you on the levee going west, so a left turn after going past the gate. This will put in the big field by the old abandoned cell block and they route traffic back on the levee from there

Got there at 9:30. Bought this etched glass picture.
Put it in the truck at 11. It was hot as hell. Totally miserable in jeans. Humid as hell. We decided to leave and grab a bite to eat. Had a burger and daquiris at the nearest gas station. Got back to the prison at about 1:30. We had one of the 50 seats in the sun. We said screw it and watched from the walkway in the shade. Watched the entire event and it literally took 10 minutes to get out once we got to the truck. It was a good time, except for the heat.
