The SPC has also gone really drama queen the last few years. Yesterday wasmt going to do much more than line out. Its stupid, the enhanced outlook used to mean something.

There is a little cotton ball cloud around Houma, moving toward Watson. Drawing a straight line between the two shows there are probably 40 schools that can be closed.
If you think school boards are smart enough to make these decisions, look at the quality of education they are doling out.
Remove this responsibility from their plate, so they can formulate plans to begin educating kids again.

Closing because of weather aside, the storm front wasn't even expected to get to our area until late evening. So why close schools and government offices that are only open during the day? Sad part is no one is held accountable. They just pay themselves with our tax dollars and find every excuse possible to not provide the services we pay for.

I just checked the radar. It said GFY.

You probably thought this was clever.

SPC logged 262 storm reports yesterday. 31 of those were tornadoes.
There were tornado warnings all day yesterday in parts of LA, MS, AL, TN.
They certainly nailed the severe weather possibilities AND the location of moderate.
A lot of people had a rough day yesterday. Be glad it wasn't you.

"School boards" aren't making those decisions. The superintendents are.
Who would you want to make those decisions?

The weather wasn't expected to get bad here until after 7 pm and none of our schools closed early. We did have after school activities cancel which makes sense since some of them can run pretty late, and you want everyone home before 7 pm. Sometimes, bad weather starts early.
Now, the state closing offices at noon in our area? That was stupid.

Don't most/all parishes have an emergency director< or some other named bureaucrat to make emergency decisions?
Clearly, whoever is closing school for a storm that comes in after dark is inept.
Well, there it is.

At the advice of the school board contracted attorney.

The state emergency director is the one who closed state offices yesterday... EARLIER than the schools.

So, we blame the attorneys then?

People have been having rough days for millennia, but the phenomenon of canceling everything for it is new.

As a kid I remember being stuck at school during floods, stuck at school during snow, etc.
During one rain event I remember being stuck at school until 10 pm.
These days many people can work from home (not all).
Your first responsibility as a parent is to take care of your kids, not expect the school to do that.
