My nephew got bit on the bottom of his foot by a copperhead he stepped on. It he said it hurt like hell.

Had a dumb arse drunk friend catch a small rattler that bit him on the finger. He just cut the hole sucked out what he could and kept getting drunk. His finger looked like one of those #1 team foam fingers. It turned black but he didn't lose it. Damn fool, it's a wonder it didn't kill him.

My SIL got a dry bite at the lake. She didn't even notice it until an hour later when she was complaining about her leg burning. It was on the back side so she couldn't see it. She said she thought she stepped on a stick and it flipped up and scratched her leg.

I read that 40% of snakebite victims were drinking before being bitten.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if 40% of everybody that gets injured in any way were drinking first.

3 times now, I work outdoors in snake prone areas. Twice by cottonmouths and once by a timber rattler. Got lucky with the two cottonmouths. One was a dry bite (no venom injected) and the other bite one fang got my foot the second got my sandal. The dry bite was weird, never burned or anything so I turned around on the way to the hospital and went home.

The timber rattler put me in the hospital for four days. It was huge and gave no warning. Nailed me as I climbed over a rock outcrop.

The best thing you can do is remain calm. Getting all freaked out and raising your heart rate is gonna make things worse. Every time I was bit I was quite a way from my wheels so I calmly and slowly hiked back.
