Always figured this was a movie thing or urban legend. Nice to know that piece of shite people actually do this.

I do a lot of work with car dealerships. Had a 08 Altima with like 77000 miles on it and the main dash stuff went out. They thought I only had a 75000 mile warranty so to help me out they changed it to 74800. I actually had a 100000 mile warranty so they didn’t need to do it but regardless it was already done.

know someone who did time for it. It wouldn’t get you enough extra value to be nearly worth the risk....

Used vehicle? We're talking thousands at most, and you say enough extra value..... The only way it would be believable is if they took mint care condition of the entire car and it still looked newer...if a car is taken that well care of, it probably was taken well care on the drive train too, and the milage might not be a big issue.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A federal jury convicted a Huntsville man last week on multiple counts of rolling back odometers on vehicles that he sold.

Randy Eugene Greene, 62, was convicted of 11 counts of tampering with vehicle odometers and three counts of bank fraud, federal prosecutors said.

Greene was accused of rolling back odometers at vehicles sold at his business, RJ’s Auto Sales on South Memorial Parkway

In one case, he rolled back an odometer more than 218,000 miles, prosecutors said. The amount of mileage he rolled back averaged more than 122,000, they said.

Isnt your mileage listed at every inspection sticker . So I guess you could fudge a years worth but this’ll be overly suspicious

Yes but there are ways around it. If you know a couple of folks that own places that change oil and do routine maintenance and drive lots of miles you can scam 20k miles per year.

If you buy a brand new car or diesel truck the inspection is good for 2 years. Bring it to someone you know and don’t have them log it into the computer when it’s in for an oil change or tire rotation. You could also do those yourself. After two years you have 50k on the odometer then right before the Inspection you bring it to a guy who has the software/program to turn the mileage back to around 10k. Do it twice and you have a vehicle with 20k on it after 4 years vs 100k. I’ve heard some cars are easier to do than others.

Just FYI it can be proven that you rolled miles back if someone suspects it. You will go to jail for it too.

Not exactly, you are free to roll back all the miles you wish as long as you own the vehicle.

Misrepresentation during a sell is illegal though.
