I feel like this year has been harder than past years after my brother passed (6 years as of December 1st). I think it's maybe because I haven't allowed myself to deal with all of the shite, was incredibly numb to things in previous years, and we haven't had as much "other" drama to deal with (my cousin is an addict and the other is becoming a Grade A frickup in her own right).

While I haven't myself, I can certainly understand why people want to check the frick out this time of year. And it makes it hard to be really happy about the holidays when some of my family likes to attention whore based on my brother's death (how it's SOOOOOO hard for them to cope, when he didn't even like them or really spend time with them).

That's never been an option for me. But I know what you're saying.

The gatherings this time of year don't help. Kind of rubs salt in the wound.

I'm getting ready to head out to the third family funeral since the day before Thanksgiving. Pretty unreal. Everyone is dropping like flies. On a brighter note, my brother was almost #3, but is home now after several days in ICU, and I'm thankful for that. I guess life (and death) has been too hectic for much emotion. I'm sure it will catch up with me at some point.

Be happy for what you have, not sad for what you dont.

I think you're missing the point. This is a time for giving thanks and giving to others, not retreating into your ego and wallowing in negativity.

I'm just trying to be truthful instead of telling you what you want to hear.

You'll thank me when you grow up.

I used to.I lost my Dad Dec.10th of 1989.I was 28.He was 56.

And Christmas in general reminded me of who wasn't there.Grandparents,etc...

So,yes,it was a very sad time of year for me.I wanted to isolate but couldn't because of Family get togethers.

As I've gotten older,54,I'm at peace with basically everything.

I'm an Elder in my Family now.Christmas is for the kids. It's our job to give them that.

To me Christmas is a celebration of our Family. Those kind of things seem more important to me the older I get.

I absolutely hate Christmas. Year before last I let everyone know that I wouldn't be participating anymore. I sat the one year out but the guilt trips came hard and from everywhere. I now participate in Christmas again and try to make the best of it. Fwiw I absolutely enjoy thanksgiving

Yes. I would think anyone who has lost loved ones will miss them this time of year. Cherish the memories!!
Don't let your internal "Christmas Tree" go dark. Turn on the lights!!! ~~~ May each of you find Peace and Joy!
