Mississippi river cruises... there are a few boats that stop in BR, most notably the American Queen.

American Queen. It does a Memphis-New Orleans route a couple times a week. I see their busses that follow the ship all over downtown when they're docked.

It's like a cruise for geriatrics basically. I can't imagine anyone under the age of 60 doing this.

Viking river cruises has a boat that stops in BR. I think the cruises take them from New Orleans up through BR, Natchez, and Vicksburg up to Memphis.

They aren't operating yet.

If they had a small casino onboard and B&B type rooms, I'd take a trip down the mighty Mississipp'!

They may be hanging out in Baton Rouge waiting on the river to drop before they start the UMR summer touring season.

I went research. It's basically a small floating Branson. I think there may be one little lounge and bar.

I still don't understand the appeal behind cruising the mississippi in this area. This isn't the Rhine or anything. Unless Viking plans to let the NOLA to BR portion be completed at night, because there isn't anything to see other than plants.

After reading that article from over a year ago and no new information since then, I bet this never comes to fruition.

Viking has a sign up on the side of the Hilton Capitol Center facing the River.

Nope they are headed to Memphis. Next trip is back to NOLA. Then Up to St. Louis. Traditionally they never cruise above St. Louis until after 4th of July. River is dropping fast up river of Louisiana.

Slight hijack(or is it). I would love to do a River Cruise one day. I didn't realize till a few years ago, however, that they are MUCH more 'spensive than Carnival-type jaunts on a big boat. ah well.

That was the Viking Outdoors Cooking School... as in Viking ovens and ranges. Nothing to do with the cruise line... and they haven't been open in a while.
