Pretty standard for a softwood. The MOE (density) for southern yellow pine is about 50% more than that of catalpa.

It's decent for a veneer because it is lightweight and has rather straight grains.

Don't know about the wood but this is the fastest growing tree I've ever seen. I planted a 1gal tree this March and that dude is close to 10ft tall already
