Anybody here into Buddhism/Eastern Philosophy?

I've been listening to Alan Watts videos on youtube and they've really inspired me. Eastern Philosophy focuses more on living the good life than Western Philosophy does. Buddhism tells us that desire is one of the roots of unhappiness and unease. We need to transcend longing and coveting to really be happy. Paradoxically if we strive for happiness we likely will not achieve it; if we forget the concept of happiness we may achieve tranquility

I read quite a bit, mainly quotes.

Worked with a Buddhist. They have some strange beliefs. I probed him on a few issues. Was interesting tho.

There's a Buddhist temple near my house. Thought about going but I don't know anyone there.
Anyone ever been to a temple?

I don't know a lot about it, but everything that I have seen leads me to believe that the beliefs are totally positive. it seems to be centered around beliefs that are just really good ways of thinking.

I was raised hard core Baptist and it's very encouraging and uplifting to hear about another belief system that doesn't focus on institutionalized guilt

Buddha was a Hindu Prince IIRC that gave up his worldly possessions to become more in tune with nature and man. I believe some depictions of him show large ear lobes which were elongated due to wearing heavy gold earrings. St. Francis of Assisi has a similar story with giving up wealth and power to be more in tune with nature and mankind as a whole. In short, money isn't everything according to both Buddah and St. Francis.

I like to watch kung fu movies if that counts. Some of them get into philosophy a little.

Not really per se....but I did read parts of the Tibeten Book of the Dead while tripping in college. It's a pretty interesting look at what comes after death if that's your thing, but it's really about liberation of the living soul to me.

The Art of Happiness was good.
Kind of long. So, I didn't read it.
But, you can imagine if I did........
