Anybody have kids at a Charter School in Baton Rouge

Getting ready to move back to BR and I am just weighing my school options.
More than likely will not be able to get into any of the private schools that we want to.
We are in the waiting pool for the magnet schools.
So I now find myself looking into the charter schools. The Charter school in Avoyelles is awesome, but I do not know anything about the Charter schools in Baton Rouge. Anyone have kids that go to one. How is it?
ETA: It will be for elementary.

Good Lord. Stay away from Charter Schools in BR. They are terrible.

Everyone on the OT says they're horrible but they don't ever state any personal experience which leads me to believe it may be hearsay by some of the posters. Which is how most people on the OT give their opinion anyways so it's no surprise.
I'm curious to know about them too. I would like to think there should be more to it than just "they're horrible."

The "ratings" for these schools are public knowledge.
Anyway.. OP, Kennilworth Science and Technology is technically a charter school, but I'm pretty sure the process to get in is very difficult.
ETA: NVM, didn't realize you asked about elem.

My mom, who is a retired teacher, still subs. She subs a lot in BR charter schools. Discipline is still a huge issue and the inner city culture is alive and well in the charter schools. She would not recommend ever enrolling your child in a charter school.

I see lots of kids who go or went to charters in BR. The feedback from parents is consistently poor on the school. Administration at these school are terrible in my dealings with them.

They mostly aren't a great option to be honest, but in Baton Rouge your options are very limited if it's not private or magnet schools.
My mom teaches at Mayfair elementary and they are teaching the same curriculum as University Lab School (Uhigh) and all the teachers have advanced degrees. It is located on Hyacinth off Bluebonnet and Perkins, which is an easily accesible location. It is probably worth taking a look at to see if it fits your families needs.

Thanks for the feedback. Like I said, I'm just curious bc I thought these were supposed to be somewhat decent schools but everyone always says they're horrible. Then again, I haven't paid much attention to them either.
