Was in Boston recently and wanted to rent a car with the family to go check out some of the Maine coastal towns. Just needed a car for the day and needed a large SUV because we had the kids so used Turo. AmEx also had some offer going where you got $30 statement credit when booking Turo.

It was the easiest car renting experience I've ever had. Car was clean and matched pics. The guy messaged me before hand asking what kind of phones we had and had the chargers in car waiting for us. Only con was there was a mileage limit which I don't think I've ever dealt with when using Hertz but it was pretty high and we didn't exceed it (but it was on my mind while we were traveling).

I've used Turo several times. Never a bad experience. Much cheaper than the big chains, and you get way more options.

Have used them several times for local AND longer driving trips:

1. Around Denver
2. Around Chicago
3. All over New Mexico out of Albuquerque
4. All over upstate NY, Vermont and up to Montreal out of La Guardia in NYC
5. All over Oahu in Hawaii out of Honolulu airport.

Great experiences every time, and usually much cheaper than rental car companies. Reiterating a few tips:

-- ALWAYS go with the five-star, highly rated car sharers. Don't bother with anything less.
-- Yes, take 3-4 minutes and take pictures of the car, interior and exterior. There is even a feature in the app that encourages you to do this, IIRC.
-- Be cool and polite as a renter, you are ALSO rated as a renter, just as the one lending it to you is rated.
-- Re: insurance, I would check with your own car insurance provider. Before I did it the 1st time I checked with my agent (State Farm) and they said that as the driver I was protected for any accidents and such on Turo, just as I was on regular rental cars.

Worked really well for me. I treated it as an extended test drive of a vehicle I was interested in - 4 days with a Tesla Model Y. All comms with owner were clear and concise. I took LOTS of pics.

same. Rented one in San Fran. Nice and easy experience. And you actually get what you want versus the big box rentals.
