My grandmother got hit with one a few year's back. Someone called saying her grandson was in jail out of the country and needed money for legal fee's and stuff to get out. Of course, they were vague as hell and she just fed them my name and they ran with it. Ended up getting $13k from her, literally leaving periodic payments to them in cash in her mailbox for them to pick up. Like seriuosly WTF. They give you the "you can't mention this to anyone or it will put me in more toruble" line and she somehow fell for it. At no point does she even try to text or call me or my parents. She is still pretty sharp. Shocking how easily she was duped.

They did this to my Great Uncle. Called him pretending to be me and said I was in jail in Chicago and needed bail money wired to me. He was smart enough to say he would call back and drove down the road and saw me mowing the yard. He said you aren’t in Jail in Chicaga are ya?
