Anybody dealt with fraudulent activity on your debit card?

I was checking my account balance and noticed I had three charges from uber and uber eats and have never used them before. I filed a claim and all, but how does somebody get my card info when I've had it the whole tine?

Yes. They steal your number. Ditch the debit cards and use credit cards. That way they steal someone’s money.

I dont have debit cards for this reason.

Last year I got hit with a skimmer. Over 600 dollars was stolen and the bank and police investigators said it was done at an ATM with the thief using a pile full of cards made via skimmer.

I have never had a problem with getting my money back after theft from my debit card.

I see now this is your debit card and a slightly different situation than mine.
They hacked into an old unused Uber account that was attached to my credit card and Paypal. This sounds like they have your debit card #.
I mean, your bank should just let you report the fraudulent activity and you'll eventually get your money. Cancel the card, of course. And I guess you better hope they were using your debit card and not a direct link to your bank account (like what Paypal would do).
As others said, this is why I use credit cards for everything. My bank is a small credit union so they make you go in person and complete a form and wait a ridiculously long time if there is fraudulent activity on your account. Whereas a credit card will reverse it immediately.

I do have a paypal account with my bank account on it. Should I cancel that account?

When Target and Home Depot got hacked some years back, I got slammed.
Bogus charges hit my checking account mid month. Bank emailed me about questionable charges.
Then at the end of the month, they cleared out my checking accounts. Bank gets in touch and lets me know that ALL MY BANK ACCOUNTS were being closed and that I'd have to open new ones.
Stressor....had many end of month payments coming in, as well as bank drafts for mortgage, utilities, cable, etc.
Glad they went to the chip after.

I haven’t used a debit card in years. Besides the benefit of a good rewards card, the bank can’t rectify the situation quickly enough.
My bank told me they could not freeze accounts (and that may be the case with all banks?) so my only option to stop fraudulent charges from continuing would be to basically go in and get all of my money out in person.
Credit cards all the way.

what do you use in place of a debit card? would a credit union credit card work to replace this convenience, or are you just a cash user?
