Sounds like some friends and I are getting a little more serious about planning to go in July. One of our friends is from Edmonton and she's been talking it up lately. Apparently it's a huge event for Calgary, and Canada in general. Probably as big as Houston's Rodeo in terms of amount of people and size of the event venue and grounds. I've never even been to Calgary before.

Any thoughts/opinions from the omniscient OT would be appreciated.

TIA

Long time ago. It's like a giant state fair with a rodeo. They usually have some decent musical acts.

ETA: and it being broad daylight at 10:30 PM is kinda cool.

I went in 84. Met a woman and found out she was a tranny halfway through blowing her. Terrible experience. Save your money

Been to Calgary, reminds me a bit of Denver. Never been to the Stampede, don't do rodeos but it would probably be a good time to go, lots of people in town.

Drive an hour west to the most unbelievable mountain scenery in the western hemisphere. Banff nat park.

I'd be very serious if you want to go. Calgary is pretty expensive to get to and expensive while you're there. I think it was something like $1,300 just for the flight.

I've heard it fun from those that live there, but I don't think I would ever be serious to go during Stampede.

Damn that's ridiculous. Nonstop 2.5 hr flights between Denver and Calgary are $427 on United right now for when we would go. I could cover that with Mileage Plus points anyways.

Can't mention Banff without mentioning Jasper nat park.

OP....I've been to the stampede but I was 13 so no help.

I went for work, so it was kind of a forced hand type thing. I would go up a few days early and check out banff and the Canadian Rockies

You can get affordable flights on United. Its been 500 bucks from LFT or BTR for a couple years now, but the hotels up there that time of year are expensive, as are good rodeo seats. If you go you have to go over to Banff and Lake Louise
