How are people supposed to travel to see family and celebrate with one day?
That sucks. I usually work on Christmas Eve because I know we'll only be here 3-4 hours but I have to use 8 hours of PTO to take the day off.

Yes...a nice perk with my profession. It gives me some quality time with the family. I lost my last remaining grandparent just over a year ago (RIP grandpa) which highlighted to me how important time with family is.
