I think being a LL catcher is tougher than being a major league catcher. They don’t have to deal with multiple wild pitches every inning

I got yelled at a lot for not throwing the ball back to the pitcher at a high enough speed, cuz, yeah, that was the problem coach.

Senior year in high school while pitching my catcher was one of my best friends (and actually sitting next to me in the old photo I posted earlier) and basically didn't care all that much and would routinely one hop balls to me, or generally throw them anywhere BUT directly at me. Even more fun if there were guys on base. I'd start getting angry, and he'd just start laughing and turn around towards the backstop.

I was an all star every year I played except for the last season. I was actually supposed to be in the grade below me so when I was in 7th grade I kept playing. I got fricked over by my coach who lied to the voting committee, saying I didn’t care about baseball to get his terrible son on the team. That’s what another coach told me who was pissed. I was the best player in the league. My dad paid me to keep playing, but I never played baseball again after that. I couldn’t believe an adult would do that shite. That happened to be when tiger was getting big and I had already started playing golf. Switched to that, became a 6 handicap in HS and never looked back

Dixie Youth
Don’t know if they still use it but wore the stars and bars on our patch.
Can still smell the grass on those warm summer evenings.

Early 60's wool uniforms itched a lot.

One inside the park home run, but my last year in the smalltown league (4 teams), I either walked or had a base hit every single at bat except one lined out to 2nd base. My best friend was an opponent. They beat us both games, otherwise a spotless record. They had one lose to the last placed team

Luckily, maybe 2 pitchers at that age could throw a curve in my then small town.

Learned a lot playing little league in a small town. Coach had a shoulder tat of a half naked woman. Wasn't the best artwork but it was clear enough to understand. He'd get pissed because during team meetings we'd stare at it. One kids dad had a Chevy S10 and after we won we'd pile in for a free snow cone across town. That poor truck was squatting down. One funny memory was we had a first baseman who was huge but as soft as a bunny. We were getting our arse kicked one game and our pitcher gave up a base hit. Runner on first must have said the wrong thing and big man took his glove off and slapped him across the face. We were all in shock then fell out laughing.

I was the third out on a triple play.

For the rest of the summer I was called, "THIRD OUT"

Great thread. Absolutely lived/loved little league from 8-12 years old. I’d bike to the park on off nights just to watch games. Concession stand candy, frito pies, pickles, sno cones that were free if you brought back a foul ball. Knew everything about MLB and players. I was a decent player but too small to be a star. Lost my love around 13 and now couldn’t name five MLB players. Started my son in T-ball a few years ago and stopped after coaches pitch. He never loved it like I did and I wasn’t too upset- it’s a boring fricking sport to watch and play these days in comparison to football, basketball and soccer which he likes a lot. But I’m saddened that he won’t have those great memories of paper cup baseball games between the fields and summer nights at the park.

Any of you guys play CYO baseball at Sacred Heart at the corner of Florida St. and 22nd Street?

Those were the days. It seemed like Yankee Stadium to a 10 year old playing in the league with giants like Apple Sanders. Way back when that was the center of the universe.
