I guess the phrase “embrace the suck” was really taken to heart? What other choice did you guys have anyway?

Ex-LE, so not a direct comparison, and I'll never claim to say I understand what a veteran experienced, because I haven't.
But I miss it because when SHTF or you're fighting a combative subject, nothing else matters in that moment. Not bills, not relationship problems, what you have to do, things at home that need repairing, etc. You feel ALIVE.
We are so disconnected from life with distractions or devices (I'm guilty), we often forget to just be present. And it's unfortunate, but those shitty times forced us into a mindset that is almost unattainable in daily "normal" life.

11b and 11m here. I was in during peace times but I know how you feel. Should have retired from military instead of what I do now

Suffering and overcoming hardships together creates strong bonds between men. It's true for both military service and athletics. You don't miss the heat and suffering. You miss the camaraderie that those things created.

Yep. I averaged 2 to 3 years between mobs. The cycle was:
Year 1 back- I'm never doing that gain no way;
Year 2- ehh, it wasnt that bad;
Year 3- gone again

Marine 0331 (CAA FTW!)
Think about it every single day. Deployed 5 times. Good friends wasted. Even with all the bad, would do it again. “The mobile infantry made me the man I am today.”

This isn't even a fraction of them. If we spelled out the real names we would be dead from exhaustion instead of an enemy bullet.
And to all you high speed frickers in this thread Hoorah. You served your Country well and deserve all of the kudos you get. Whether you served in the shite or in total peace, you played your role as intended. Carry on gentlemen............
