above all else best thing you can do is to go into a specialty store and get fitted.some place like fleet feet or whatever local store you have around you.

I actually did that last year at Varsity Sports last year and one of the shoes proposed was Altra. Instead I ended up with a pair New Balance 1080's and Brooks Glycerine.

I have a few pair of altras and swear by them. I have the olympus, lone peaks, and Superior. Great shoes.. All I've worn the last few years.

I tried the Torins and never got used to them. The wide toe box was nice but the pain in my lower legs never went away until the shoes wore out. Zero drop isn't for everyone. I'll never buy another pair.

I run in them now. Wide toe box is absolutely awesome. Zero drop takes time. Like literally build miles from scratch again. Don't do a couple 2 mile runs then think you've got it down and throw an 8 miler in there. Your calves and Achilles will hate you. I've had this model shoe for 6 months and was doing fine. I took a few weeks off and ramped it up too fast and I'm limited in mileage due to Achilles pain now . I still would rather heal and stay in these shoes than go back to a 12 mm drop though. Just need to ease into it better.

The Lone Peaks, but I like the new Superiors better. Super light but great tread and rock plate. And seem to be pretty water resistant (have gaiter Velcro too).

Just bought my 2nd pair. They are a bit clown shoe looking with the wide toe box, but are the best shoes I've owned as far as minimizing pain and being comfortable

i found the street-running models to be very clownish. Very minimalist look. (Edit: that sentence was supposed to apply to the Superiors, not sure why it ended up up here.)

My superiors don't look bad at all--I got these last summer. I haven't been able to run much due to a hopefully now-healed meniscus tear, so they're still in great shape. Looking at the website, it appears Altra has changed the Superiors again. I hope they didn't go too goofy.
