WTF? The 911 has been the purest sports car made for decades. It still consistently wins best "driver's car" in sports car shootouts. Porsche clubs flourish across the country, and they are full of guys of all ages who regularly participate in track days and club racing. Sure, there's the occasional tool who buys one as a status symbol...

Let's be clear. I love Porsches and Vettes. I'm not running down the cars or the owners, just saying that there are guys who buy them and announce to the world in no uncertain terms that they are suffering mightily from a mid life crisis, and they are looking awkward doing it.

See, MDT, it's just like I've always said, "Porsche guys are kinda sensitive."

You have received some good advice already, but let me throw my 2 cents in that you are almost certainly going to ignore because a lot of people see dressing well as a hassle.

A large part of the reason that actor/actresses look so good in their clothes on screen and in public is because they are tailored exactly for them. They don't just go jcrew and pick something up off the rack and say "alright Mr. Gosling, try to make this work." A lot of the times the clothes are relatively normal, but the fit is perfect.

Do yourself a favor and do the same thing. Go to luxire.com. They are a custom made clothing business that will custom make you pretty much whatever for your size. You can either go get measured somewhere to find out the exact right measurements that they ask for, or you can send them a shirt of yours that fits perfectly for them to use as a sample. Then find 3-4 patterns you like and order a few custom shirts. They range from about $60-$600. Most are in the in the $100 range, so it's really not much difference from going and buying something at Brooks Brothers or the like except that it will be made to fit you and only you. But find a few you like, since it's summer you might want a gingham shirt or a linen shirt or two. And order a few as your "going out in public in a situation where I might meet women" shirts. You'll have high quality, well fitting shirts and will automatically look a little better than the guy next to you who bought his stuff off the rack at Macy's, even if the women can't pinpoint why.

The only drawback is that it's not a quick process. Some times they have the fabric in house and it takes a couple weeks to get the shirt, sometimes they have to get the fabric in and it takes longer.

But all in all, you're getting a perfect fitting shirt/pants/whatever, for a little extra time and minimal extra money.

And the bonus is that if you compliment a woman, they almost always compliment you back and the first time they compliment a custom shirt you just casually say "thanks, my shirt maker does a really great job." She's going to ask all about it, but immediately when she hears your "shirt maker" she thinks you're trendy, set financially, appreciate the finer things in life, unique, etc. There's really no negative about it so long as you are very casual and act like it's the norm.

And she's also gonna walk away laughing at what a pompous a-hole this guy is

You're kidding, right?

I'll put it this way, if someone is mocking a polo and khakis (any age) then they are the type of people I couldn't care less about. That's why I said it depends on what kind of women you like.

Leaning more towards a tramp stamp type, more power to you, wear cut off sleeves, big logos, gaudy designs and cargo shorts.

Like a girls in sundresses and pearls? Don't dress like that.

Dude, really?

It's her job to impress me. I'm not up for saying things like that. And if that's what it takes to impress her, I have chosen poorly.

This is good advise. More tailored fitted clothing instead of one size fits all box clothing is the secret to looking good. Crotch at your knees and polo a size too big makes you look special needs.

Not necessarily. It can have that "I'm packing" flair.

Yeah, that's all good.

I'd ditch the "shirt maker" line though.

Again, maybe you're the type they couldn't care less about as well.

Didn't say you did. Keep your prop stop girls and I'll stick with what I know.

The whole point is what type of girl you're after.
