No trip but we used to do "Dine and Dashes".
We'd have a speaker at a restaurant and the docs would come in and order dinner to go for their family. They would shoot the shite with the speaker until the order was ready and then they would leave. We picked up all the tabs.
Speaker programs aren't worth the bother any longer now that docs can't bring spouses.
It's the same 7-8 single, divorced three times docs that come to every single one.
I remember reading about Novartis doing some pretty extravagant things. It may not have been widespread, but you only need a few of these "over the top" stories to sway public opinion against pharma reps, who already aren't looked too highly upon.
It probably wouldn't be wise to say what company you work for, but could you at least tell me what specialty you're in?

Not promotion, but rep. I know a couple guys that actually do it and love it. I've thought about it because my work history and skill set would bode well.

We can't give anything that doesn't have a "medical or educational purpose".
We have some patient education posters that we can leave in patient rooms that have a value of $1.23.
I have to log every poster I leave in the system as something of "value" given to a physician so it can be reported.
It's all so dumb. No nurse or doctor worth half a damn ever wrote a Rx just because some drug rep gave them a pen and sticky notes.
Politicians think doctors can be bought that easily. Probably because politicians can be bought that easily.

I really don't know what to think. I encounter more and more autistic kids every year. And no, it's got nothing to do with advances in modern diagnosis. The kids are noticeably autistic and there are more of them than there used to be just 20 years ago. I personally know 6 women I went to school with who have autistic kids.
autistic kids also used to be sent off to live in a home or were hidden from society out of shame. You see them more now b/c of things like parents no longer believing their autistic kid should be institutionalized and most no longer fearing how people will react to them. Also, in 1960, the population of the US was at 180 million. Today the US population is 318 million. Simple math says you are seeing it more because there are a frick ton more people in this country.
and honestly, if there is a rise, its far more likely to do with a pollutant or some kind or new(ish)chemical that has had very little study done on its long term effects.
