The Garden district, while a very nice area, is not what I would call a safe neighborhood. It is next to Central City as well as the former Melpomene projects. That area has had crime issues for years.

I would consider the area you are describing above as the Lower Garden District. I live in the Garden District a few blocks over from Jackson between Magazine and Prytania which is the Garden District.

The gentrification taking place in Central City is really astounding and I don't think the Lower Garden District has but maybe 2-3 blighted properties left. The criminals who are coming into the area are from New Orleans East or deep Central City where the gentrification hasn't started taking place yet.

The Peter Gold shooting was another New Orleans East perp. If we sealed the border (the Inner Harbor Navigational Canal which cuts off the NOLA East) the crime rate would drop by 40% overnight.

It's probably a cab or Uber. Some of those cars have cameras for auto accident reasons or just other vandalism reasons. He might not own that car. Could be owned by his employer.

I feel you man. My GFs dad lives in lakeview/gentilly area and it's really convient. I live in the riverbend area so there's plenty of places to get things if you need them and all in walking distance. I guess I just like that you don't need a car uptown.

Where is LNCHBOX? Shouldn't he be here explaining how this is an isolated incident and New Orleans is just as safe as every other city in the country?

I wouldn't say we're as safe as every other city, but shite does happen everywhere though.

I mean the murder rate is the murder rate, but I've felt more unsafe in other cities than the worst night I've had in new orleans

BR for 4th of July when I was younger was bad. Didnt think we were going to make it out of there. My wife's friend had an experience too. Had a cousin robbed at gunpoint in br too.

I don't feel any safer in Houston, where i live now

I live downtown and walk around this area all the time, and at all hours. I was actually crossing Canal just two blocks up right after this happened to meet work people in from out of town on Bourbon. I've lived downtown in several big cities now, walk everywhere, and have always felt relatively safe but I'm starting to rethink all that now. This recent string of shootings has me pretty spooked. I wonder what precautions I should take. Does anyone know if these victims have all been thugs targeting thugs or have any innocent randoms gotten caught in it too (other than the Tulane guy)?

rampart and canal is at least a 15 minute walk from saks, while on the same street, they are not considered the same part of the city.

Do Garmin maps keep up with all the places we outsiders would be dumb to go?
