Oh yeah-I reward myself with post-race beers. But I have been generally trying to avoid alcohol otherwise. At my age, one night of drinking screws up about 2 days of training and/or work. Not worth it.

We could have hung out back in the day. Now 8 years sober.

I feel like I've had 2 lives, the life where I drank and the life where I'm sober.
I'll take sober life any day of the week, even the hard ones.

I think a lot of that comes from people with the mindset ‘I’ve never been addicted, where’s my recognition’

i'm not big on praising someone who has no self-control and quits something because they more or less have to

congrats on being a responsible adult, i guess?

I’ve never understood this. I’m happy for these people that get their life together but celebrating someone for not being a deadbeat or piece of shite or a-hole no longer after god knows how long they were makes absolutely no sense.

You have zero clue.. having self control IS very important in quitting. If you want to say I’m a weak human. Go ahead
With your bad self. I can tell you right now that I’m a stronger and way better person than you are at this moment.

Have a great day.

Glad you got your shite right. We’d be better off rewarding consistency of doing the right thing instead of doing the right thing when you’re forced to.

Oh I agree. I was a total dhithead with a major problem. But I finally realized that I would lose everything because of ME. I woke up on November 6th of 2021 and said no more. I did
This with no meetings or rehab or counseling. Pure will power and my faith. My life is so much better now, I have zero problem talking about all the stupid shite I did, just like I have zero problem talking about how great my life is now.. I need no approval or congrats from anybody. But it is nice to hear.

you've lived a life of degeneracy and substance abuse, but because you had to quit or you'd die, you're better and stronger than me, who never had any of these problems

makes sense

I honestly hope that life doesn't knock you off of your anonymously proclaimed pillar of self-righteousness and superiority. You having to pick yourself up just like the rest of us is going to be painful, but justifiably humbling.

“Life” didn’t do that to you. You did it to yourself. You didn’t get cancer, you woke everyday and decided to drink.

I can say with 100% certainty I’ll never do something as stupid as get addicted to drugs or alcohol.

I’ve done shite I shouldn’t have done, we all have. My first thought when I reflect is always why would I be such a dumbass and do something like that, don’t do it again. I certainly don’t think “wow how brave and heroic of me to not be an a-hole again”

Coping mechanism to justify their behavior
