Am I the only one who thinks it's crazy that the Vietnamese dude is the tallest person in those Mardi Gras pics?

Bill Elder was a crazy bastard. Do you remember when he ran a couple of burglars out of his house on Camp St and then decided to take a couple of potshots at them to remind them not to come back?

Cue the Obi Wan gif.

Weird he's not holding out for another week so he can do one last Mardi Gras telecast.

They've become a low budget college news operation.
Interesting, because once Loyola sold it off in 1989 it started downhill.

I knew his son, but not much of his personal life.

I do remember that when he'd sign off on the noon broadcasts the credits would roll over scenes from Lake Pontchartrain and they'd play Sailing by Christopher Cross as the soundtrack.

His 5:00pm signoff was something like this ...
"Alllllright. Now we switch you live, and direct, to the CBS Evening News."

I remember that and when he would sign off to
Stranger on the Shore as they showed different fountains in New Orleans with the sound of the cascading water in the background.

he shotened to that when Dan Rather took over.... when Cronkite was the anchor.... he said ....."to the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite."

He didn't like Rather.

Anyway, off topic. Good luck to you Mr. Arredando

I worked as a summer helper for WWL for a few years. Painted offices in the evenings and helped in the carpentry shop.

Bill had us build him a platform for his chair so he'd be the same height as the rest of the reporters on the set.

Do you remember Jim Metcalf? He hosted “A Sunday Journal” back in the 70’s. I loved his work.

I used to roll my eyes when my dad said this but I agree 100% now. Modern WWL is an embarrassment compared to when I was growing up. Channel 8 is honestly not much better.
